He may be vested, but if he left today his pension benefit would be based on the highest three years out of the last 10 years. He would not get credit for his new increased salary. If he's really playing the retirement game, he'll be at UAB for 2-3 more years.
There will be a day that he leaves, that is for sure. Even The One in Tuscaloosa will leave, eventually. He may have it in his head that he wants to stick it out to hit X, Y, or Z goals but in the end you have to recognize that this is a job for him and it's a career. At the end of the day he's going to do what is best for himself.
