We win 1 of our 2 remaining games we win.

Can anyone explain why Memphis didn't already win the west? SMU and Houston both have 3 losses, with 2 to the west. Navy has 3 losses with 1 to the west (Memphis).

Because, in theory, we could lose our last two and end up with three AAC losses. UH only has 2 AAC losses right now and could pass us. SMU could, in theory, tie us as well as could Navy.

IF we win next week, THEN we clinch since that will give us at most 2 losses and the next best team is UH and they have 2 losses (and most likely will only have 2 losses in AAC as they play at Tulane and then at home against Navy) and we own the tiebreaker with them.

+2. Makes sense. Thank you.

Regardless, Memphis needs to win the next two games so they will be highly ranked coming into the championship game. It'd be great to finish the season with a New Years Bowl and win that too. Could be the best Memphis football season ever.
