I'm not going to defend the play calling or Childers sub par arm, but our receivers aren't exactly creating much separation. Even when Childers does complete a pass 5+ yards downfield, they're usually well covered. Tears and Blake are decent but neither of them are fast and/or big. Beebe is a good underneath guy...but that doesn't do a ton for you when you don't have anyone that stretches the field.

This is very true. Last night, Toledo's receivers were so open that they could have set up a table and chairs and had a bite to eat before the NIU defender could get to them. It seems that all season our receivers have been well covered. Lack of speed? Lack of decent routes? But, yes, they're not making Childers' job any easier.

What you guys fail to understand is coverage. Toledo was in a cov. 2 and cov. 2 man which takes away from WR's being wide open. While we play man most of the game which puts our DB's in a tough situation. Smalls got chewed up most of the game but he had NO help. And unless you get pressure on the QB (which we had none) no DB would be able to cover that long. Toledo was double covering most of our WR's most of the game. Of course a couple of balls that could have been caught by Tears and Beebe would have helped but it was not going to make a difference in that game.

So why not change your coverage when you are constantly getting beat?
Do we have that ability or is this all we have?
