Wrong? Its a ranking system based on whats occurred, and a pretty good one at that. Couple of points here. First off, don't we always mention this every year, how the transitive property in sports does not work? I am not saying NIU is not better than Illinois, but for instance is the fact Baylor lost to Liberty by 3 points and lost to Oklahoma by 8 points mean that Oklahoma would be 5 point favorites against Liberty? I think Oklahoma is probably substantially better than Liberty than the 5 points. Secondly, I was not intending to make a direct comparison between NIU and Illinois, when they are ranked that close together with this small of a sample size on the season , it probably is foolish to say. Third point, do not use the transitive property in this way either, I like a ranking system, and thus you must hate the ranking system because you hate whatever I like and vice versa. Final point, Massey is doing something right with this system because almost to a T, the initial point spread for games is within 2 points plus or minus his differential in the game. For example right now I can tell with 100 percent confidence the NIU/Kent point spread will open somewhere close to NIU -21, or using my 2 point fudge factor -19 to -23. I think you take your hats off to someone when they can construct a system that does that.
