The thread is a result of a Kirk Bohl's piece on the comments. In short, Dodd said, Texas would rather go east to The ACC than west to The PAC. He understands what many that live in the west already know, east coast media bias. Say what you want but it exists.

During my time in SoCal I listened to the locals complain about east coast bias in the sports media, polls. The PAC doesn't get the credit it deserves because most of the country is a sleep or doing something else when it plays its games. SC vs Stanford for example is as big as any rivalry in the southeast but it gets little coverage in the east.

Dodd knew that and didn't want Texas to be forgotten.

There's a lot of truth there.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much the PAC can do about it. You're absolutely right, the SC v Stanford game is a huge rivalry and usually results in a hell of a football game. Problem is that if it starts at 7 PM local, it won't get done until almost 2 AM eastern. Unless you're an alumni or a die hard college football fan, you aren't staying up that late.

Perhaps it will take the PAC teams biting the bullet and playing more non-conference games against eastern and central time zone teams so more people have exposure to their teams.

There is also no reason for any Central or Eastern Time Zone fans to stay up and watch because they - often times - do not have a rooting interest. The Eastern most team is Colorado, and I would say they have been an impactful addition not only because of their rise in football, but also because it gave them another Mountain Time Zone team to spread out times.

If the PAC were to continue Eastern in expansion, and assuming Texas continues to refuse to move west, gobbling up a combination of Oklahoma/Kansas/Kansas State/Iowa State/Texas Tech/Houston, you get even more exposure in the Midwest, and get the opportunity to start games earlier.

IMO, getting into Texas is vital for the PAC to continue pace with the B1G/SEC/ACC. UT would be a grand slam, but Texas Tech/Houston would also be a strong add as well.

I think you're right about the PAC & TX. Getting some sort of influence in Texas would be key to their continuing success. If they can't get UT, then TT and Houston would be a nice consolation prize. The only thing I'd differ with you is that while KSU or Iowa St. would put them squarely into the central time zone, I question just how much it would move the meter. Oklahoma would, Kansas might (especially in BB), but I don't know if there's a following around me (southern WI, northern IL) for Iowa St or KSU.

If the PAC wants to go for the kill, they'll either need UT, the TX combo, or maybe OK & KS. If they don't get some sort of that combo similar to that, they very will could be relegated to being an after thought.
