ESPN offered to take the Arizona Bowl but wanted it played Wednesday December 20th to fill the Poinsettia Bowl mid-week pre-Christmas slot and the Tucson people said no thanks because they wanted to remain in the post-Christmas slot to help the hotels.

Good for the Arizona Bowl for doing this. They also seem to be looking out for the fans.

Outside of the New Orleans Bowl or Las Vegas Bowl (which are played in destination cities with plentiful hotel rooms, while also being likely to play host to 1 or even 2 very local teams), the pre-Christmas Bowl games are great for ESPN but rather lousy for the fan-bases.
