I think it's funny that the original poster asked for a unique, downtown B'ham lunch/dinner spot and people keep naming the Bright Star in Bessemer... literally 16 miles from downtown.

As for the multiple choices, I don't want to guess Cardinal's taste of food. I just laid out the most unique places in downtown that don't need a reservation. Considering the hundreds of places you could eat around B'ham, I'd say these are appropriate lists.
