Well sure - those teams had expectations, and we should have had them. That Mincy-Mitchell team when they were seniors was Final Four caliber until Stevie went 2-27 against UNC. The expectation for a miracle run was there on the teams with Kennedy and Shannon; good teams that may have underachieved but had the players and potential to get suddenly hot.

And then came the 94-95 team, and we were just another school with a mediocre basketball program.

Football at worst contributed to that ****** 94-95 season and might have hastened Gene's retirement by a year or two. It did not ruin basketball, and basketball would not be better off without it.
