Quote:Veronique de Rugy recently called out many Republicans for being "pro-business," but not actually "pro-market." Yes, they are very different.

The "socialist conservatives" choose to embrace a stronger STATE as long as it's a version of the STATE more conducive to their world view,

As for paying into SS or Medicare...I realize it's unsustainable, but I would like my money back. And since I get a notice each year of exactly how much I paid in, that's not a hard number to obtain.

The angle on this is far too black and white. You are either completely in the libertarian camp or you're a socialist...

I have no problem taking back what you precisely paid in. But most Republicans see no problem with the entitlements.

GT,

It's the same with the WOD... I'm on the fence regarding drug legalization but I won't take someone who wants 99% of the government shrunk but is pro WOD and call them a socialist.

That type of 'purity' throws out the baby with the bath water

Now... is the GOP *as a whole* too far in the Big Government camp? hell yes but I find the tendency to pick on individuals as being big government because of one or two issues is counterproductive.
