Scott Sanderson should be fired.

Consider: If we define a close game as one decided by 3 points or less, or one where both teams have the lead in the last 4 minutes, Lipscomb has been in 17 close games in the last 2 seasons.

Their record? 4-13. (Or 5-12, depending on how you count the Arizona game.) Against A-Sun teams, including today, they're 3-12.

That's not bad luck. That's bad coaching.

The head coach makes his money in the tight battles with the outcome in doubt. A decent head coach should win around half of the time, a good one maybe a bit more than 50%.

If Lipscomb had won half of their close conference games last year, they would have been conference champs and at least gone to the NIT.

In the last 6 years, Scott Sanderson-coached Lipscomb teams have won 27% of their close games. If his close-games winning percentage were a batting average, he'd be a back-up shortstop for the Kansas City Royals.

Blowouts are about recruiting and scheduling, but close games are about coaching. The assistants are doing a good job recruiting good players, but somehow Scott Sanderson is taking good players in winnable games and finding ways to lose.

Please understand. I like Coach Sanderson as a person. The players who play for him seem like good guys.

But if Lipscomb really wants to be taken seriously as a D-1 school, there needs to be some level of accountability for winning and losing.

So here it is. Nothing against Kennesaw, but after what happened today, heads should roll.
