RE: Future Direction Of CAA Membership
Charlotte in particular needs to be very careful about grooming a winning program, regardless of the level. It's not Greenville, people have lots of other entertainment options in Charlotte rather than make the trek to their campus to watch a consistently losing team. And no 4 year old program is going to beat anybody at the FBS level. They'd be doing well not to get blown out by the top tier of FCS at that stage. I'm honestly a bit worried for them. People who haven't followed this story closely are expecting a USF-like rise, but Charlotte isn't attempting to put together that kind of budget. It's a more modest plan, which I think is in line with the realities they face. Georgia State is similar. People would be surprised to hear where their athletic budgets rank in their respective conferences. At times they've both been second-to-last, maybe even last in GSU's case. These are big ventures for these two universities. Since I have hopes for partnering up with them someday, I don't want to see them blow it.
