Whipple would be a larger SF. He isn't going to be a guy that takes his man off the dribble, but he is a decent catch and shoot player from 3pt range and in, and provides great rebounding from the wing. He can also easily guard the SF position with his length, athleticism, and quickness. I don't expect he would ever be a great penetrator, but neither was Ronell to be honest. Only by his senior year could he really go more than 1-2 dribbles at a time, which is what I see out of Whipple.
I think Whipple will be used as a stop gap for whatever position we need. He can play SF, PF, C if needs be, and causes matchup problems at all three positions. I see him as a super-sub that will constantly be in the rotation filling the needs of that specific game. He just needs to keep working on his 3 point shot, and then get stronger with the ball.
He sure is a nice guy to have on the team, that is for sure.
