Quckly glancing at the athletics sites for some of the ACC schools shows that the state supported schools for the most part offer more different sports than do the private schools. For instance UNC offers 26 men's and women's sports where Wake Forest only offers 16. Duke offers 20 and Clemson 15, NCSU offers 28 and appears to be the only school that offers Rifle as a competition. I'm sure the other ACC schools will vary also.

Boxing was mentioned but seems to be no longer offered at any school. I don't know that any other school ever had boxing teams. I really can't remember boxing ever being an NCAA sanctioned sport. I'm not sure that anyone can claim the ACC's "Best Program Overall" because of the disparity of sporting programs offered now and throughout the conference history.

After all the ACC was formed in 1954 so any titles held previous to that should not be counted.??

UNC may well be the leader in the ACC with trophies but as far as I can see they have offered more different sports longer than anyone else.

More opportunities, more power to them...........

but it's hard to make that comparison with the differences in the school's athletic programs.
