Tallahassee, FL - Shane Robinson is now just the fifth Seminole in school history to be named a consensus first team All-American and just the second sophomore in program history to sweep first team All-America honors. The sophomore outfielder has already been named a first team All-American by Louisville Slugger/TPX, USA Today/Sports Weekly and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Now Baseball America has also put Robinson on their first team. Robinson joins J.D. Drew, Marshall McDougall, John-Ford Griffin and Eddie Martinez-Esteve as the only consensus first team All-Americans in FSU history. Robinson and Martinez-Esteve are the only sophomores on that list.
Robinson is Collegiate Baseball's reigning National Player of the Year and has been a candidate for all four of the national player of the year honors this season. He was named SEBaseball.com's ACC Player of the Year, a first team All-ACC selection and a candidate for ACC Player of the Year honors. The sophomore outfielder enjoyed a school record 40-game hitting streak that garnered him national attention earlier this season and he was the first player in FSU history to record 100 hits and steal 40 bases in the same season. He was also the first player in the nation to reach the 100-hit plateau.
The Tampa, FL native won the ACC Batting Title and had more hits, runs, stolen bases and total bases than any player in the conference. He finished the year leading the ACC in on base percentage as well. There were only two games all season long where Robinson did not reach base and he recorded a hit in 64 of FSU's 73 games in 2005.
This marks the second consecutive season an FSU sophomore has been named a consensus first team All-American after Martinez-Esteve became the first FSU sophomore to ever accomplish the feat in 2004. This is the first time in program history that two Seminoles have ever been named consensus first team All-Americans in back-to-back seasons.
Way to go Shane!!!
