Quote:As if the Top 10 ranking weren't enough, Alabama found yet another area to celebrate its 31-3 whipping of Florida on Oct. 1 -- the recruiting trail.

In the days following that nationally-televised win, four coveted prospects have said they'll sign with the Tide on national signing day in February. That brings the Tide's commitment list to 14 when including junior college prospects who have already cast their lot with Alabama but plan to do so again when they can sign in December.

The latest commits include:

• LaBronski Hutchins , a 6-foot-3, 177-pound linebacker from tradition-rich Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City.

• Marquis Johnson , a 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back from Booker High in Sarasota, Fla.

• David Ross , a 6-foot-4, 295-pound center from Homewood High.

• Alex Stadler , a 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive and defensive tackle from Liberty High in Bealeton, Va.

Both Ross and Stadler were rated as four-star recruits by (RIVALS)

News of these commitments was celebrated by the recruitniks, but the importance of these announcements go far beyond fodder for the Internet message boards. They're significant of the success that Mike Shula has made on the recruiting trail, an aspect that could arguably emerge as his greatest strength as a coach.

Even more, Hutchins and Ross are especially significant because they signify success within the borders of Alabama. A look at players like Mobile's Jamarcus Russell (LSU), Russellville's Arron Sears (Tennessee) and Hoover's Chad Jackson (Florida) underscore the potential Shula could realize if he built a fence around his home state.
