These candidates do not reflect Texas public opinion. That said—they do reflect the thinking of the people who DID show up to vote. Trump did the Republicans no favors in 2026. To me—this was not reflective of a Blue mandate in Texas. It was a reflection of a turnout election where Democrats were motivated and Trumps 2026 governance did little to motivate Republicans to go to polls. Texas will return to the solid red column in the next election—but this should be a sobering moment for Trump to understand that if your losing Texas—your doing it wrong.
Abbot was a good governor and Jackson was a good candidate in Georgia. Trump downplaying food and gas prices and pushing BAD senate candidates dragged down the ticket.

It figured Dems would hold NH and GA and pickup NC with a popular former governor. We knew OH, IA and TX were close, but Dems got those. They are currently up 12 points in Texas with 82% in. Kansas and South Carolina were shockers with the Dems up 5-6% with over 90% of the vote in. Its 51-40 Dems right now. But that isn't all:

Idaho 38% in, Rep 46, Ind 45
LA 88% in Rep 53, Dem 47
MS 88% in Dem 49.0, Rep 48.9
NE 56% in IND 49, Rep 46
MT 29% in Rep 48%, IND 38%
Alaska hasn't closed yet.

But there was an anti-incumbent mode, not just anti-Republican:
MN 37% in Rep 51, Dem 46
MI 45% in Dem 51, Rep 47

And surprisingly, the Senate didn't rest on Maine:
48% in Collins 49.9, Jackson 49.0

LA, NE and MT ended up Republican but close. Democrats ended up with 52-53% in MN, MI and ME. Alaska and Mississippi too close to call, so its 54-44.

Mississippi should not be too close to call. LA, NE and MT should not be close. The Democrats should never have picked up Kansas, Texas and South Carolina. Iowa and Ohio, formerly purple, have leaned increasingly red, but it was a bad night for Republicans, also losing 3 House seats in Iowa and 3 in Ohio. North Carolina and Maine were likely going to be Democrat this time. But the Republicans have already lost 7 Senate seats with two still undecided.

Republicans also lost governorships in Ohio , Iowa, Georgia and Texas. Bad candidates dragged down the whole ticket and took out good governors/candidates in Georgia and Texas. Alaska, Kansas and Nevada are too close to call, but the Democrats are ahead. Alaska and Nevada were Republican held. Kansas was thought to be a sure Republican pickup. Its 27-20 right now.
