If a serious violation of AUP has occurred, racial slur, someone got doxed, a death threat was made against a poster or political figure, or anyone, a moderator, whether your mods are present or not has to un-approve the post, ban the user, and report it to the site progenitor who may report it to the authorities in the case of a threat.

Why? Well for threats it would be liability and the law. For the rest it would be to preserve the sponsors who keep this site free. They have rules that we must follow for them to continue to advertise here. The larger and more trafficked the forum the more important it is to stay on top of those. I moderate the SEC sub forum, which has little traffic. I moderate the CS/CR forum which is #1 in traffic. The Spin Room would be 2nd or 3rd depending upon whether it was an election year or not.

At least in the Spin Room you can use some language that would be forbidden in the CS/CR forum where things have to be kept PG13.

If a moderator's name is in blue they moderate only their assigned forum(s). If the moderator's name is in orange they have dedicated forums but also have the responsibility to handle any unmoderated area. We have lots of unmoderated areas where mods have been named but either are absent or simply don't moderate. That's why guys with orange names moderate the spin room. I decided if I had to I may as well post here and get to know the posters.

Moderation largely fails in the Spin Room because any moderator is seen as being for one side or the other. I'm thinking that is one reason there is a high burnout factor at play in this forum. Mods feel damned if the do and damned if they don't and both political spectrums are cliquish.

When I suggested that there should only be moderation here for violation of important AUP rules only I wasn't joking or being flippant. This board rejects most moderation and most moderators. If one comes in to toss a racist, or bigot of any kind, or someone making threats and leaves you to your own devices what do you get? You get exactly what you have most days here. So, if you reported major violations and came in prepared for ruff and tumble every day it would be better on moderators and better on you. I don't know how much productive and sane exchanges over matters facing this nation would take place, but how much of that happens now?

We set up the Buckley / Vidal room to have much stricter moderation and nobody much avails themselves of it. That tells me you want the bickering.
