He has at best 45-50 percent of the country behind him (and I'm being generous, it might be 40-45 at best). I know Obama did much of the same thing but at least he had a majority and electoral college win (and more votes in each case than Trump).

So the lie is 'dangerous' because it implies a 'mandate'. Interesting point of view, to say the least.

Quote:Time after time, Trump has tried to completely wipe out all of Obama's policies even when the majority of Americans want them to stay

I suggest the issue there is not the 'lie' but the inherent power of the Executive Branch. Obama making a case for ruling by 'the phone and the pen' kind of set the stage for that same level of action to undo it, imo.

If you are mad that the inherent power of the Executive is too strong, then I suggest you be a little more level-headed about complaining about *that* and the structure of the Presidential system in the modern era. To quote Obama 'Elections have consequences'.

If your problem isnt with the root of Executive power but instead the use of Executive power by 'this President' and against causes that *you* dont like I have zero sympathy for you and zero sympathy for your complaint about 'lying' about things that mean absolutely frackin zero.

Quote:Sanders' statement is dangerous because she is trying to infer that they have the mandate of the people, and that's not the case. Look at today's Approval Numbers for Trump - they've already gone down from his high of a whopping 48 percent to 44 percent. And that's before some of the latest tragedies. Trump has got to start working with both sides on some compromises; especially, if the Democrats win back the House in a week.

I find that bolded statement somewhat laughable after the Obama reign, to be honest. You are correct, Trump is seeking zero compromise. About the same level of compromise sought by Obama. And your complaints about Obama are..... where exactly?

Sorry, the roots of your complaints go way fing deeper than the last two years. Sorry to burst that bubble there.

Quote:If not, I think the civil unrest we're seeing in this country is only going to get worse over the next 2-6 years. I'm certainly not condoning the craziness on either side; it makes me sick to my stomach and I wish it would stop right now.

I think we already crossed that Rubicon, sadly enough. The events of the last 6 mos. have me convinced of that.

Speaking of executive power, news this morning indicates Trump may try and use it to challenge the 14th amendment.

If he does, I expect the textualist SCOTUS to set him straight. Probably 9-0

On the other hand, a "living constitution" SCOTUS could simply declare that people born in the US are not citizens -- because you know, birthright citizenship for children of aliens is a "wrong" that needs to be corrected, and on which the public is not moving fast enough. Isn't that a great philosophy?
