One thing about a hurricane is that the destructive strength of a cat 5 hurricane is one thing that buildings and what not can be designed and built around (I.E. - to withstand).

With an Earthquake, if a 10+ were to hit, there is no building that could withstand that.

With a Cat 5 hurricane, believe it or not, there are some buildings built to withstand that.

Hell, Matthew hit (or was it Irma) in 2016 and I didn't even lose one shingle or even power. Then last year (right around this time) the other one hit and I lost half my shingles and power for 4 days.

In addition, there are provisions that can be made to a structure to mitigate hurricane damage. With an earthquake, all you really have is seismic bracing.
