The last 3 games will be a 100x more important then the first 18 now in the MAC.
First, everyone settle way t-f down. This happens in the MAC. We were due. Frankly I hope it happens once, even twice, this way than the way it happened last year.
Second, this garbage of an at-large bid is a fricken pipe dream. The only way we get an at-large is to have a P5, probably even a Q2, win. Which we don't have. And no place on our schedule between December and March has a Q2 team. The team is at the same level at 3:00 on Wednesday as it was at 3:00 on Tuesday; we need to win the tournament to get in. Not to mention its how often does a 4 seed swoop in to win the tournament (re. 2000). Remember 2010 when Ohio was 6 place in the MAC and went to the Sweet 16? (We were the #1 seed in 2010.)
Some of you all are knee-jerk reactioning like you're Ohio State fans.
Go to the game Friday. They'll be lit. Have a beer.

You’re right. That 2000 loss still hurts. I believe Kyrem Massey got hurt a week or so before and we weren’t quite the same team. Probably the best team in the MAC that year. The 2012 OT loss to Akron still stings too (Justin Greene fouls out at end of regulation on BS call).
I know I’m in the minority on this but i wish the MAC regular season Champ got the auto bid. Go ahead and play the MAC tourney. Look at it as more games for the MAC Tourney winner to show they belong in the big dance (if the winner is not the regular season champ). Never gonna happen…just my “frustrated thoughts.”
Unfortunately wanting a regular season champ to get the bid is only a dream of old men who started watching basketball in the 50’s. Myself included. Oh and also anti-zip.

RE: Kent State @ Northern Illinois
Interestingly enough I got an email from the Athletic Dept today wanting me to meet them for coffee to discuss what’s going on with Kent Athletics. First time in 30 years. Maybe something positive is happening. I know they are just after some money but an effort to get it is better than hoping to get it. At least they are working on it.

I, for one, am not overreacting. So far, the team has performed much better than I ever dreamed of. And while I may have been the first person to bring up the perennial at-large bid topic, I always felt it was the longest of long shots and now a dead issue. I saw my first college basketball game, or more likely heard it on the radio because so few games were televised, in probably 1952. Lots has changed. Some for the better and some not. And anyway, unless I'm mistaken, I think that the NCAA says that if you have a conference tournament it is that winner who gets the automatic bid.

There's something about hauling all the way out to Dekalb that must suck the life out of Kent. I remember seeing Kent play them in 2002 or so and, even though Kent was the much better team, they struggled to get out of there with a win.
Disappointing for sure, but I didn't think they were going 18-0 in the MAC. I'll be there on Friday and hopefully the team gets back on track.

A win is a win, a loss is a loss. However, the head scratcher for me was the last 2 minutes. We were within 4. Then the collapse.

This has happened in all four of our losses. Not being able to score with the game on the line. Kent had 3-4 wide open looks that last few minutes at NIU and came up empty. I guess the guys are just too tight in these situations…

Alpha,
What are talking about man? I think most every post-loss comment was more a sigh and an admission that we all knew it would come at some point. I think we are all smart enough to know that KSU will lose another game between now and March. I don't see anything in the lines of knee jerk or freaking out. I may be missing something though, it wouldn't be the first time.

Right, as I said before, this teams wins with their defense. They are more likely to win with big stops than making late shots.
