Carry, Jacobs, and Thomas all played great. The rebounding in the second half was the best I think I've seen from us all year. And I loved the contributions from Hornbeak vs their small lineup. Tough matchup for him defensively spending a lot of time out on the perimeter with Jacobs on Shumate but forgetting a couple possessions they weren't really able to exploit him on defense. Which allowed him to stay on the court and cause problems on the offensive glass.

Lastly, Jacobs may need to hire a tax professional next year. I imagine his local taxes are going to get confusing when he has to report that he had established a residence in Shumate's head for 40 minutes.

Thats awesome stuff! Especially the last part about Jacobs.

Talk about a boxing match. I should be used to a MAC team blowing 10-point leads, but it still makes me cringe. At least we kept the lead when it counted.

Over the years I've witnessed Kent State being on both ends of comebacks a lot more than 10 points several times. Of course, with the shot clock starting with some conferences 40 years ago and now down to 30 seconds after being at 45, then 35, and the three-point shot, double-digit leads are less safe than ever. Close to 20 years ago I witnessed KSU blowing a 22-point lead at home against BG. It was nauseating to behold. Essentially, I consider no lead safe unless there just isn't enough time left.

RE: Kent State vs. Toledo
I’m surprised that no one has commented on the very unusual “heavy dribble / one on one” offense we have this season. I don’t remember ever seeing anything like it. Seems Carry and Jacobs take turns playing “iso” ball. With Carry, at times it’s almost like a “Curly Neal dribbling show.”

I assume this is because we have no big who can post up at all so we can inside out. I think this is why we are having trouble getting good looks to launch three’s. I think this is part of Carry and Jacobs shooting woes. Teams don’t have to worry about protecting the paint so they simply pressure the perimeter as best they can.

Carry is a special talent. As some one earlier wrote, he has some NBA level skills. He just can’t make three’s at a high rate. Tough to see him struggle with his shooting…

Any thoughts?

Team sports have always been "monkey see, monkey do" to a large extent. It became even more prevalent in college basketball since the 3-point shot and the shot clock, especially the 30-second shot clock. You rarely see a team now do things at all unique anymore. (1) There just isn't the time and (2) nobody can afford to ignore the "trey".
