I wasn't able to tune in today. Holiday travel plans and entertaining family and whatnot.
But, I'll go right on ahead and scout the box score.
First and foremost, I think this game gives us a lot to chew on regarding our beloved Huskies. Obviously LIU is worse than us. I think most of us figured they were worse, but not by much and NIU kind of beat their azzes today. So, that's a good. I'm trying not to celebrate not being the worst, but at least this game gave us some clearer division line to see. It is much worse and LIU isn't the only program who we'd kick the crap out of like this.
Anyway, I'm happy to see Williams have a big day. That was important for him. And our 3 primary scorers all had good days together. I know who Crump is but 2 points in 17 minutes of play is low on both of those numbers for me. Considering he and Amos are pretty close in style and Amos bested him in both minutes and points is something. Granted, maybe this was a game to get Amos more minutes. I'd sure like to see more than 5 points out of him though.
The rest of the bench is uninspiring though. Thornton led the way from the bench with 7 points and 23 minutes. Clearly having athletic guards is important to Burno and Thornton fits that descriptor. And...I think none of us have ever felt comfortable with Thornton being a scoring threat. He's best when he's creating plays for others and 11 assists tells me that is exactly what he was doing.
I'm kind of curios what is up with Hunter though. He is simply not playing after being a starter for about half the year (out of necessity) and in the season opener this year. Since that game, he's barely played. Could be injury related or maybe not. He's clearly not great but he's steady and plays decent defense. Just surprised to see him only play 4 minutes today.
I would have liked to see the 9 minutes Youngblood logged against a team like LIU. He looked overwhelmed against GT but a team like LIU should have been a good experience for him. Same with Plintauskas but he also only played 4 minutes.
Granted, there's only 360 minutes to fill and everyone can't play 15 minutes.
Think Nutter was getting a little bit of a break today? Only played 16 minutes while both Coit and Williams were well over 30.
Oh well...Great win and confidence booster for the fellas. We'll have our hands full at UNI after the Holiday but I'll be interested to see how things are coming along.
