Sometimes a school makes a hire that not only makes a lot of sense, the immediate returns on significant winning make it seem all the more obvious in retrospect. That's what we have here with Andy Kennedy at his alma mater. UAB is coming off an NCAA tourney run and a 27-win season. Jelly Walker is one of the more electric players in the country, a shooting guard who loves to take and make tough shots but who isn't a black hole in Kennedy's offense. UAB will have center Trey Jemison and KJ Buffen at the 4, giving them the toughest starting five to match up with in Conference USA. One of the best mid-major teams in '22-23.

What’s great about AK is the excitement his seasons bring.
I was excited when he was first hired, then excited with the transfers we got last year in preseason, and now I’m the most I’ve been excited about UAB Basketball in ages.
Here’s hoping for a special season and surpassing last year’s season.

I didn't expect much out of his first team, but We were quite close to making the NCAAs that year, with what he's said was his least talented team - maybe ever. I firmly believe we would've made it if we could've pulled out a close game against a very good WKU team. Now that he has talent, shown he can recruit, and shown he can immediately replenish a roster via the portal, the sky is the limit.
He's been a great hire from the moment the deal was signed. I hope he finishes out his career with us.
