Doesn’t even mention the NIL offers.

Agreed. He shows up really well on tape. Very athletic and a nose for the ball. Looks like a great commit!

I think we have a couple of current players from his high school (Spring Dekaney) -- that probably helped us.

We're not even in this competition. This is Texas v. Alabama. v. Ohio State v. Notre Dame, etc. We're all FBS, but some animals are more equal than others. I don't anticipate an SEC invitation for Rice in the future to bring us into this discussion.

I think it pretty obvious that a school making say 5mm per year from the TV deal is going to spend a lot less than a school making perhaps 100mm per year from the TV deal.... so I don't think getting invited to a 'top' league is contingent upon that.... but it is certainly dependent upon making 'the whole deal' worth $101+mm to those other schools, plus you.... which means generally having a large following.

THAT is what we need to work on, and I'm sorry... but I think we need to embrace the 'nerd' status and go for that market... because almost nobody else can or does... and its the only differentiation between us and every other school trying to win more games.

Don't think he's still there, but Nightowl coached at Dekaney for several years, and I'm sure he put in some pretty good words for Rice when he was there.

Where is Kalau' s son going? He keeps talking positive about A&M on his radio sports show. Wonder if that is where his son is going?

then we might consider adding a Rollerhocky team because nerds can play hockey...

RE: Rice football recruiting - class of 2023
UH football and baseball have been signing NIL deals on Twitter with local businesses. A few years of big 12 tv money coupled with a fan base that’s willing to pay, this might’ve been our last year to win. I wonder if Saint Arnold’s or some other local Rice business would consider signing baseball players up for some advertisement. Unlike the coogs fans they’d probably stay neutral and sign kids from both schools for market reasons.

Can't have any complaints about that. On paper, should be the starter next year. If not, have some options behind him. He was solid in spurts at WVU but struggled with consistency.

Padgett may not even see the field next season. I hope we have an offensive line that can protect him.

You guys are getting a mega STUD in Ashton Njoku. Great kid who will help put Rice football back on the map. Mark my words. Taught him at Foster. He is a SUPER STAR....I don't know what happened this cycle, but the Owls recruiting class is legitimately GREAT. Frankly, I think it has better HS talent than UH's class. Looking forward to following the Owls for the next 4 years for sure.

Marco Regalado happened. Let’s hope he likes it on South Main.
