Practice should be starting in a few weeks with the Spring Game in the first week or two of April. If you have a BCJ account their staff will be covering the events from practices every day.

Unless it’s an absolute stud like Camar Wheaton I think we are fine. Ford could do it all and obviously probably the most elite speed we ever had at that position.

I would expect Ethan Wright to become very good for us in the future with some more development from what I saw last year. I am confident it will still be a strong position for us although a group effort until someone takes the reigns. Ryan Montgomery is solid as well. Anyone know if Chuck is still around? Elite speed and playmaking ability although a couple bad knee injuries.

Maybe a youngster takes over the group like Myles Montgomery or Stephan Byrd.

I see lots of quality backups at RB but no real top of the AAC runners in the group. One reason why Gino is saying he wants to utilize more screens out of the backfield, I’m guessing.

Camar Wheaton is still available per 247. The reason I wonder is I thought we are a run-oriented offense. For year we had Warren then Doaks then Ford. When Warren was here, we have Doaks ready to take over and then Ford to take over for Doaks. Who gives us that confidence now?

I see this year as being very reminiscent of 2006 and 2007 where we had a stable getting yards together, but no clear #1.

Benton, Glathaar, Ramsey, and Moore all had like 300-500 yards if I remember...was kind of cool to see how differently they were all utilized.

To me, we do have some corollaries to those situations in the Montgomerys (scat backs and/or 3rd down backs, Butler Benton), McClelland (change of pace and outside runner, Ramsey-ish), and Wright (inside tackles runner, pass catching...much like Greg Moore). No Goal Line guy like Glathaar was, but everything else seems to be covered.

Any idea when we might expect a detailed season schedule? I know TV networks and times are always subject to revision but it will be interesting to see opponents' dates and the bye week to get a sense of how the season will progress.

In the past, the AAC has been one of the later conferences to drop the next season FB schedules. Usually they drop in the second half of March.

Contrast that with the mess taking place in CUSA, which was prompted by the CUSA conference schedule being released internally last week, and supposedly up for public release today. (Which prompted the ODU, USM, and Marshall statements that they would NOT be playing in CUSA after 6/30/2022.)

So, if the past is prolog, then we have a few weeks to wait yet.

The 2022 American Athletic Conference schedule is expected to be released in mid February 2022. In September 2021 UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston accepted bids to join the Big 12, the schools are contractually required to remain with the AAC through 2024. All indications are that the three schools would prefer to leave in 2023.

IIRC the delay has to do with the teams that play in NFL stadiums (Temple and USF). They need to confer with the NFL’s schedule before scheduling dates for their home scheduling. Of course, it does not seem to be an issue for the ACC with Pitt and Miami.

Wasn't Jerome Ford in the 22+mph range? How does that speed compare to other running backs in the NFL draft? I'm just surprised at that speed he isn't warranting some better draft projections.

RBs aren't as valuable as they used to be...people are finding out that you can get 90% of the top-end RB production when you invest in OL and put a serviceable guy behind them. I mean, there were only 4 RBs taken in the first 4 rounds of the draft last year, Najee Harris (Top End Talent), Travis Ettienne (one of the best statistical careers in CFB in quite some time for a RB), Javontae Williams (phenomenal senior season), and Trey Sermon (after his last 4 games, it was hard not too boost his value).

I'd say Ford is on the level of a Michael Carter, Chuba Hubbard, Ramondre Stevenson type evaluation, so mid (4-6) round makes sense, regardless of speed.

Prater v Bryant is going to be a fun ongoing debate and reports from Higher Ground should be especially interesting to follow this summer.

Something tells me it's going to be up to Evan Prater to force his way onto the field. I imagine a bunch of packages for Prater will be built into the early gameplans with Bryant getting the bulk of the reps. With Whyle, Taylor, and much of the OL coming back the Cats should be really difficult to defend around the line of scrimmage. Hopefully the staff can figure out a way to optimize the scheme pretty quick.

With basketball stuck in the mud it feels like we are on the brink of completing the transition to full on football school.

Maybe over the brink!

Bolded, yes I agree. With 30 years since a Final Four appearance, it's been frustrating. I'm cautiously optimistic that Wes will build something here as Luke has done. He has a historically significant program, a top flight arena (with more upgrades on the way I'm sure), and will be recruiting to the best conference in the country. The stage is set for his future success here.
