Wish Bryant all the success he wants but I don't think it should be in a Bearcat uniform.

Since it's out there now, my money is on Ben Bryant to win the starting job next year. I'd be surprised if he didn't honestly.

I don't have any additional insider's info. I'm just connecting dots.

Try as I might, there is no way that I can disagree with you.

I remember during Des’ freshman and sophomore years, many posters wanted him benched and couldn’t understand why CLF was sticking with him. As it turned out, it certainly appears that CLF made the right decision.

Knows the system.

Sets a bad precedent to bring back a player who left the program when he was desperately needed as a backup QB (because you are only as good as your backup QB), and place him ahead of the player who stuck it out.

UC worked with EMU to place him at EMU.

If this practice becomes widespread, it would raise all sorts of new issues for the NCAA to deal with.

Would each P5 team end up with a G5 farm team?

It's a mad, mad, mad, mad new world.

I do not see the NCAA concern. Bryant has free will. He can return or not as he chooses.

I would also add, Bryant was able to do this because of the free Covid Transfer on top of the new standard 1-free transfer...that won't be the case after 3 years, so it isn't really going to be an issue.

RE: 2022 Bearcat Football
I think we all want Prater to succeed for a variety of reasons. But if Bryant is back it's a great insurance policy.

I like the way Prater can tuck the ball and sprint down the field. But I do wonder if his body can take a full season of physical punishment if he's running 30-50% of the time. Of course I had the same concern with Ridder. He took some big hits and remained amazingly healthy for most of four seasons, so who really knows what 2022 holds?

I don’t really root for one kid over the other. As long as there is open competition, I root for one to clearly earn the job.

If Prater can’t win the job over Bryant, so be it. Means we needed an upgrade. If he does, great. More depth.

My guess is we could have a two headed QB to start next season.

Couldn't agree more. Bring in a guy with actual college experience and let them battle it out. And whoever is the best wins.

CLF is in the business of winning. QB is the most important position on the field, and if Bryant beats out Prater, then that gives UC a better chance to win.

May the best man win, but I take comfort with the possibility of a 22 year old 5th year guy who threw over 3000 yards and and ranked 11th in the nation in completion %, over a kid who has thrown 11 passes. Especially with a new OC.

Fick has always been about competition so this is another example of action over words. Competition brings out the best in players and in the team. This is good news for next season.

Even if Prater is the starter; its better to know you have an experienced backup like Ben in the even Evan does not cut it or gets hurt. Lichtenberg and Richesson have never taken a live snap in a game.

I would not want to lose Prater over this...so easy to transfer now. I believe his running skills are unlike anyone we have ever had.

I don't mean there's a violation of NCAA rules. I mean that the lower-level schools aren't going to like being farm systems.

There's a LOT more lower-level schools in D-1 than elite schools. (remember there's 350 D-1 members)

They'll put up with NIL money (because they never stood a shot at top prospects anyway). But I don't think they'll put up with free agency if it results in them losing all their top players to the big schools after putting in the time & effort to develop them.
