RE: Men's basketball at New Orleans
I didn't watch any of it so really can't comment on the game. But as I said in the opening post, we're a different team on the road than we are at home. I think some of elw's concerns might be valid on the road, but not as much so at home. Among the teams we play once, we get ODU, Charlotte and MTSU at home (Marshall, WKU and FIU on the road).
And getting a healthy Olivari might be key. He can create some 1 on 1 offense when he's playing on healthy legs.
Finally, I'm not sure we're giving UNO enough credit. They almost were picked preseason favorites in the Southland Conference (just behind Nicholls State). The Southland Conference is not a good basketball conference in 2022 (Incarnate Word upset Texas in the NCAA tournament last year, but they're way down this year I think), so UNO could be an NCAA tournament team this March.
The Florida tournament should be interesting to watch. But if we go 2-1 at a minimum there, we really should be 10-3 heading into conference play. I think elw might be over-selling some of the conference teams too. If they're talented enough to be beating Rice, they shouldn't be losing to Campbell at home or to Indiana State by 40-plus points.
I do think we need to work on some different plays to beat full court pressure. I'm not sure the plays I saw drawn up against Southern would be my first choice.

Lack of a true point guard is going to be our biggest liability. I'd expect teams to begin pressing us like crazy.
Mullins (11 points, 7-8 FTs, 10 assists) and Fiedler (12 points, 12 boards, 7 assists, 3 blocks) both came up huge. Evee cooled off considerably in the 2nd half.
Still, as ugly as it was, it's a road win against a team that is no worse than average. I'll take it. We really need Quincy back ASAP....and though he was not looking for his shot tonight-- serving as our primary playmaker instead-- it would help our offense if Mullins started driving a bit more as he did his Freshman year before getting injured.

Southern loses by 3 at South Dakota. I'm not sure how good South Dakota is supposed to be, but I can't imagine that's an easy place for Southern to play (or even get to).

SD's Ken Pom 204
Vermillion is 38 miles NW of Sioux City, Iowa; 64 miles south of Sioux Falls, SD ... and 135 miles north of Omaha, Neb. So I'd think they'd be traveling in small planes and/or buses. :-)
