ODU and JMU were meant to be together! The East is something to finally get excited about!

What is the source on this? If true, he is at best incompetent and at worst a saboteur.

F-Man, I don't think you could be any more wrong on this one. I think the new Sun Belt is going to be a much better and stronger conference than the New AAC.

RE: Devastating blow
So the East Division couldn't get much better in my eyes. ECU would be nice. I'll miss La Tech, WKU and MTSU and UNCC a little but I'm excited to keep Marshall and add Appy, CCU, Ga Southerner and an year end rival game vs JMU. Who could ask for anything more? To be polite, Georgia State!

Not sure you are right about stronger than the "New" AAC but I hope you are correct. I also think it is very likely more present AAC members will leave and if they do you will be even more prescient. Finally, staying in what is (will be) left of the CUSA was not viable in any case. So, SunBelt days are here AGAIN, and Go ODU!

Correct. Memphis will definitely be departing ASAP, with most likely USF/SMU will shortly after. The updated AAC is a significant downgrade to it's history, and the CUSA is now either going to dissolve or be even worse. Regardless of that, the AAC did not contact ODU, and they picked the 6 CUSA schools only to keep certain media markets so their current media didn't completely implode.
Since Southern Miss & Marshall were already set to bounce to the Sun Belt, ODU only had 2 options: (1) stay in CUSA, which WKU would have taken ODU's invite/spot, leaving ODU in a decimated league "hoping" some good teams would come along, (2) go to the Sun Belt, which already has a better media deal, and is set to be better/stronger that CUSA for a significant amount of time.
There are a lot of speculative conference configure options that would've seemed to be better in the long term, but they aren't on the table now. Given the limited options, and the short time frame needed to pull the trigger on making a decision, I see ODU picked the more successful of the 2 options.

So are the Days of P6 over? I say yes. I can't see anyone leaving the Sun Belt to join that league? I think we have got something to be excited about...

Absolutely they are! I see both the Mountain West and Sunbelt conferences now moving above AAC as the top G5 conferences.

Memphis is in the process of finalizing the approval of updating their FB stadium, once that occurs, they are P5 bound. But to go down the rabbit hole with you, let's say they don't...then they are publicly stating that they are content with tanking their top-10 MBB program.

They need an invite. Just as USF and SMU do. No telling how long it will take for other dominos to fall. But I don't see Big12 expanding until they get poached again. Who knows when that will happen.

Once Memphis' new President is installed and commits to an on campus stadium, it is very likely going to the Big XII. SMU could also go to there or even the PAC. USF could also go to the BIG 12

Maybe there will be a new P6. Or maybe there will just be G4.

I think this conference would be perfect for ECU, UAB and UNCC too. In time I wouldn’t be shocked to see them join. Get them in the east and WKU, UAB and MT in the west, then split into two conferences down the road.

I’d say we should drop talk about a regional conference for the indefinite future. For starters, it’s not going to happen for a long time, if ever, based on the trends of the past decade or two. Everyone’s getting bigger. If we want a bus league, we’re not getting it in FBS. We’d have to move to the Big South or CIAA. And even if it were possible, the last thing we want to do is go into our new home (which we won’t move into for 18 months still) and start talking about breakaways and reorganizing. We’re here (or will be soon), we’ve got an in-state rival and more drivable games, a better media deal and we weren’t left behind. Let’s just roll with that for a while.

RE: Devastating blow
I'm just hoping that we can finally start winning some games in this new setup. If not, we'll need new excuses about how schools so many miles away are still holding us back. Truth is, if CUSA was that terrible, I will just settle for not being the most terrible of the new positioning of schools.
