Unfortunately, they're now being measured against their peers rather than the past. And their peers are collectively far better than we've ever had.
Does Mardy really have a peer at Wide Receiver? The dude did everything and always in the biggest games. He returned kickoffs for TDs at Oklahoma, at West Virginia and at Pitt. He set the UC all purpose yards single game record against Oklahoma then broke in in 2009 against Pitt. I get that we're probably going to be more selective about what gets a player into the ROH, but Mardy not being there is silly.
Did you not read the first part of the post, where it stated 10-12? Of course Mardy deserves it.
Mardy
Jason Kielce
Travis Kielce
Derek Wolfe
Brent Celek
Connor Barton
Chris Moore
Terrill Byrd
There are several guys from the Minter era I think deserve mention- Brad Jackson and Antwan Peak among a couple others.
I get what you are saying though. Now you are looking at having to add Des, Mike Warren, Sauce, Forrest, Wiggins, etc.
Remind me who Connor Barton is. i must have missed all his big games.

There's already 1 post-2007 Bearcat in the Ring of Honor: Kevin Huber.
Of course, he's a local boy and was a 2-time All-American.
But I agree that Barwin & Mardy should have been put up there a long time ago. The Kelce brothers & Wolfe should be in based on what they did in the NFL.

Barwin for sure! Mardy was one of my favorite players to watch.
Everyone talks about "Pike to Binns" but the things Mardy did leading up to that play put us in position to win. I seldom see him get any accolades.

Gilyard was on the verge of breaking one every time he touched the ball. Special college player.

Barwin is my #2 all-time favorite Bearcat (second only to Tre Scott). He was the only person on campus who could have helped the basketball team in 06/07, and he stepped up in a big way. He also almost singlehandendly won the Hawai'i game through sheer grit in the 4th quarter.

Don't get me wrong, I would absolutely love it... for him and for UC but I don't see it. I think he's as talented as the others (also thought a couple of our former QBs were up there too) but IMO, the G5 tag and who did he play cards will get played against him. But I love that the national media are talking about him! Go Des!

I feel similarly. I love the guy and obviously am rooting hard for him but he just doesn't strike me as the #1 pick or even a sure-fire 1st rounder if I'm being honest. And it's not about the G5 thing - we saw the BYU (non P5) and ND St. QB both taken in the top 3 overall last year.
Maybe I'm just hung up on some of his earlier struggles even though experience says that doesn't necessarily matter. I mean you look at Burrow not starting at Ohio St. and then being good but not great his first (of two) year at LSU. (Isn't it weird to contemplate how things would have worked out if Burrow had transferred here rather than LSU?)
It's gonna be a fun ride to see how it all ends up this season and into the draft... (edit: I'm copying this post into a pre-existing Bearcats 2022 Draft thread in an attempt at organization.)

RE: Guidugli vs Ridder
Agreed...I think he is best served getting into a system with an established, or at least a serviceable veteran QB. Something like Minnesota, Washington, Atlanta, etc., where he can grow into a starting role, rather than be thrown out there with a lot of work left to do.

I don't think of it as Guidugli vs. Ridder. They're on the same team, albeit in different capacities, and I'm sure Gino is doing everything in his power to ensure Desmond's success.
