Here's some media coverage of TSU.

From the second link: "Two players were supposed to return to practice on Thursday, along with another two on Friday."
"Six more will be available again on Saturday in time for Texas State’s road game at Eastern Michigan — if they can clear their protocol. But they’ll have to fly commercially out of Austin at 5:30 a.m. CDT to land in Detroit at 9:22 a.m. EDT to drive half an hour west to arrive in Ypsilanti, Mich., less than four hours before kickoff."
"The head coach said it would be tough to put those players on the field considering they haven’t practiced all week. But they’ll be helpful if emergency situations arise, as they did last game."
So they had 25 guys out, with 4 returning that the coach feels will be able toplay. So they are still down 21 players. Now we don't know how many are two-deep guys, but that has to affect them. Let's just hope the Eagles stay (relatively) healthy.
Sounds like they will for sure be without at least a handful of guys. I'm hoping we get our secondary back in (Bogan, Vadan).
Fired up for the game.
Down 21 players! Wow! Even if it's only 5-7 starters! EMU will hopefully be 3-1 as most of us expected!

WORTH NOTING: every recruit TSU has this year is a transfer. not one freshman. gelling that many guys takes a minute.

Lol what a buried lead. Why isn't the headline of that San Marcos article "25 Texas State Players out until Thursday with COVID" instead of "Cats . . .[playing football]?"
Anyway, I don't think they're down 21 players, it's more like nine. The San Marcos article has the coach saying 15 players are out until Thursday, of which four were supposed to be back on the roster by Friday. That leaves nine players still unavailable as of today.
Of those nine, 6 are being flown in at the last minute (assuming they test negative), and 3 can't play or travel at all.

Yeah. Not the best prediction there. Ouch!

You missed the last sentence.
Obviously I’m happy to be wrong.

The great part of a game like this is some of our bench players got some real game snaps especially the o line.

The last offensive series of plays was huge for a lot of guys on the O-line who have been chomping at the bit to get some playtime. And to contribute to a score really made it great. These guys work hard all week, week after week (as do all the other squads on both sides of the ball), so getting a chance to get in and score provides some tangible rewards for them.
Plus, there are some things you can't learn until you experience them in a real game: the speed of play, making reads in-game, and so much more. It's great experience for these guys who represent the future of this program. It was nice seeing some of these guys after the game and the excitement they were feeling. And of course, their families were pretty geeked for them.

That's right. Why would anyone want to stay and COMPETE? It is much easier to concede and leave.
Yep! Joe Burrow could have stayed at Ohio State, backed up JT Barrett and Duane Haskins for four years. Instead he conceded and left instead. Bye the way he won the Heisman Trophy, National Championship and was the first overall pick in the NFL Draft after he transferred to LSU.
Bob I, like you, am not sanguine with the new transfer rules BUT Burrow made a great career choice! Barrett was superior to Joe as an underclassman and Haskins clearly had a superior arm when he was entering his final two years of NCAA eligibility. Yeah he could have stayed and competed, but he would now be an assistant coach of his father's HS team instead of a millionaire.

Throw in Kyler Murray, Jalen Hurts, Baker Mayfield, etc...

One of the things I pay attention to most when looking at the "Game Notes" is the games played and started next to the depth charts. There is no substitute for experience and getting guys in the game with snaps is very important, particulalry when they can get a score. Happy for these guys to get reps. I mentioned in another post that the O-Line is this team's strength and having depth will keep it that way.
