I'd say 5 years of remaining healthy and effective past your athletic prime isn't going to be easy, regardless of if he has the best QB in the NFL throwing to him or not. Either way, the man is a clear as day future HOF'er and one of the best to ever do it...I just don't think we can call ourselves 'TEU' because we got one guy, regardless of his generational career, who wanted to play ball with his brother. You need a long ass track record to throw that out there, and we don't have it yet.
Yeah I mean that's what I'm getting at. It'll be a close call depending on how long Kelce wants to play. Obviously he's not going to average 70 yds/g to finish it out but but keep in mind Kelce started playing much later and has 143 less games. If he plays until 40 and finishes his career with 60% of his production to date, he would finishes with almost the same number of games and yards as Gonzalez.
Put it this way, if Kelce plays 6.5 seasons averaging Gonzalezs career mark of 54/game, he'd still finish with more yards in 30 less games. But, obviously Gonzalez playing in a different Era matters here too.

Until we have 5 first round picks at TE in 8 years, we are not, nor should we be, TE U. Iowa has 4 starting TEs in the league, 3 of which are leading their team in yards per game.
Not to mention the rolodex of TEs from Iowa over the years.
Iowa has only ever had 3 first round picks at Tight End: Dallas Clark in 2003, TJ Hockenson in 2019, and Noah Fant in 2019.
And Iowa's best NFL tight end by far (Dallas Clark) had about as good of an NFL career as Brent Celek. They've had a lot of Tight Ends drafted, but only 6 were starters for more than 3 years in the NFL, and only three of those played after 1996.
They've been great, no doubt. But there's no need to exaggerate their greatness.
I mean, how many TEs have been drafted in the 1st rounder overall? Three seems really friggin good to me...also, you're forgetting George Kittle who is arguably the best TE in the league. Even though he wasn't a 1st rounder, he's not exactly a footnote.
EDIT: just checked, and there have been 22 TEs taken in the first round since 2000, so Iowa has 13% of all 1st round TEs taken...even though I think actual on field production matters more than draft slot.

Like I said, Iowa's TE record is outstanding. Absolutely #1.
But if you just look at the past 15 years, UC is not that far off. Five TEs in the NFL with a combined 17 years starting in the NFL, and 2 on the roster who will be drafted. Compared to Iowa who has had 11 TEs go to the NFL with a combined 15 years starting in the NFL.

Jason Kelce was named to his 4th All Pro team. His Hall of Fame Resume continues to grow.

Kind of shocking, not one of the analytics groups or secondary outlets really had him in the Top 2 even...wonder if that was a lot of writers knowing what it means to give him that 4th one.

Coolest thing ever would be both Kelces playing another 2-3 years and getting inducted at the same time. Travis would be a shoe-in first ballot guy, and Jason is close (especially if he somehow managed to pick up another All-Pro in that span).

Great for him since center isn't really a high profile spot this is what his HOF case will depend on. Football isn't a terribly exclusive HOF so a 4 time first team all pro is going to be big

I don't disagree that it'd be cool but Travis playing more of a skill spot and Jason being older and on the line them retiring simultaneously would probably mean Travis' career is shortened by injury which I don't want to see. It'd be nice to see each get another ring or two before they hang it up.

I don't know if he gets a vote but The Athletic's Kapadia put Jason at C on his first-team All-Pro:
Quote:First-team OC: Jason Kelce, Philadelphia Eagles
Kelce considered retirement in the offseason but decided to come back and once again played at a high level. He was a key cog in the Eagles’ outstanding run game. In pass protection, Kelce was charged with just one sack and zero QB hits allowed on 557 snaps. He started every game, was a team leader and performed at a high level despite being sandwiched in between two backup guards.
He also implies that he relied heavily on "best O-Line analyst in the game, Brandon Thorn" (substack subscription) for his OL picks. Point being, Kelce's spot on the NFL All-Pro list sounds pretty legit to me.

PFF, Sporting News, and B/R all didn't list Jason Kelce on either their 1st or 2nd teams prior to the release, that's what I was referring to. In the Athletic Football Show (the Athletic's NFL Podcast), the very same Brandon Thorn had Ryan Jansen as his 1st team All Pro Center.
Suffice to say, I was quite surprised that he was selected as the 1st Team guy when all of the press prior to this morning was for Creed Humphrey/Ryan Jansen listed.

Yeah I was actually listening to that podcast just now. Both guys raved about Kelce in their discussion. The host, Mays, had Kelce as his #2 and Thorn had him as his #3. I'm not claiming Kelce is a clear-cut #1 this year but he sure seems to be legitimately in the All-Pro discussion. Maybe we just have different definitions of the term "shocking".

We may not be anywhere near the best of all time, but who cares. Recruits mostly only know recent history LOL. UC may not want to do this but the fans could start using “ The NEW TEU” or some other catchy line.
We should use some other catch phrase for the top notch player development that this program does: “We DU” (we develop you) or better yet, fans can start saying “BAD” Best At Development”.
