RE: Biden*s Migrant Crisis Just Keeps Getting Worse and Worse
Biden Admin Is Reportedly Flying Migrants To A West Texas Town Before Releasing Them
Quote:The Biden administration is reportedly flying migrants to Abilene, Texas, before releasing them to board other flights with destinations around the U.S., KTAB News reported Thursday.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reportedly flown migrants to the Abilene Regional Airport in unmarked planes before loading them onto buses on at least two occasions this month, according to KTAB. Migrants were later recorded disembarking the same buses and boarding flights to several U.S. cities.
The airport is notified of the flight’s arrival between 24 and 48 hours in advance and isn’t provided any other information beyond that the privately chartered flights are overseen by ICE, Abilene Director of Transportation Don Green said, according to KTAB.
“I am alarmed and extremely concerned by recent reports of illegal immigrants being released from local detention facilities in West Texas and transported to the Abilene community in my District,” Texas Republican Rep. Jodey Arrington said in a letter to Department of Homeland Security officials.
“It is my understanding that illegal immigrants are arriving at bus stations, the Abilene Airport, and other places within our community where they are free to travel anywhere in the United States,” Arrington added.
The Biden administration did not notify Arrington or local officials and has not yet responded to question about the operations or conditions of the migrant’s release, according to the Texas congressman.
The migrants are likely being transferred to Bluebonnet ICE Detention Facility located in Jones County, near Abilene, according to KTAB.
Illegal migrants may be flown or bussed to other detention centers along the southern border because of an increase in the number of encounters, a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) official told the Daily Caller News Foundation on Tuesday.
“The operational need for these sector-to-sector transfers is assessed daily based on the processing capability and facility capacity of each sector and not by external influences,” the CBP official told the DCNF. “The border is not open and CBP is still operating under Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines for the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Border officials encountered nearly 190,000 migrants at the southern border in June but 103,000 were expelled under a Trump-era public health order implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the agency.
“CBP is making every effort to remain within CDC guidelines and mitigate long periods of processing and holding to minimize potential exposure to our workforce, those in custody, and the community,” the official added. “Once processing is complete, these individuals will be expeditiously transferred out of CBP custody.”
ICE did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
Forty percent of migrants released in Texas border city test positive for COVID-19, officials say
Quote:AUSTIN, Texas — The city of Laredo, Texas, has refused to take in migrants who have been bused in from elsewhere on the border after discovering 40% of them tested positive for the coronavirus, according to two local government officials.
“That was very high,” Laredo Mayor Pete Saenz said in an interview, referring to the infection rate among migrants dropped off by the Border Patrol last week. Laredo health authority, Dr. Victor Trevino, confirmed the numbers.
The 40% infection rate is the highest known positivity rate along the U.S.-Mexico border. Last week, McAllen, Texas, reported a 15% positivity rate among migrants released from custody.
Concerned that migrants arriving in Laredo would further strain hospital resources, Laredo officials contracted private bus companies to transport migrants arriving from the Rio Grande Valley to larger cities across the state. By not admitting migrants on the McAllen buses, the city is not required to test them for the coronavirus and could forward the families elsewhere. Those who test positive cannot travel and must be quarantined for 10 days, a situation Saenz wanted to evade to avoid migrant overflow.
Since late spring, Border Patrol officials in the Rio Grande Valley region have transported thousands of migrant families to Laredo because shelters were less inundated than those in McAllen. Migrants were immediately tested at the shelter upon being admitted. In that time, coronavirus positivity rates among migrants arriving in Laredo rose from 4% in April to 40% in August.
Laredo does not have a pediatric intensive care unit. With several families arriving in Laredo recently, city officials worried young children would not get emergency care if they were forced to quarantine.
This past week, the city began busing migrants on to Austin, Dallas, and Houston. Laredo selected those three cities because they were among the top places migrants planned to go after crossing the border.
The extended bus rides are free to migrants, and the city is picking up the cost, up to $10,000 per day. Saenz expects to be reimbursed by the federal government.
TX Gov. Greg Abbott: Biden Admin Creating ‘Constitutional Crisis’
Quote:Republican Gov. Greg Abbott is showing Joe Biden why you don’t mess with Texas.
The Biden administration sued Texas in an effort to block an executive order from Abbott that allowed state troopers to stop vehicles suspected of carrying illegal immigrants on the grounds that they may be spreading COVID-19.
In a letter to Abbott, Attorney General Merrick Garland threatened that the order was “dangerous” and “contrary to federal law.”
Abbott responded to Garland with fire and fury.
“The Biden Administration has created a constitutional crisis between the federal government and the State of Texas,” Abbott said.
“This stems from the Biden Administration’s refusal to enforce immigration laws and allow illegal immigrants with COVID-19 to enter our country,” he said.
Abbott said that his state is being “overrun and overwhelmed” by the record number of migrants and that “cartels and smugglers profit off the chaos.”
“Not only that, but this crisis also extends beyond the border as deadly drugs like fentanyl infiltrates our communities,” the governor said.
“This already dangerous situation continues to deteriorate as the Biden Administration knowingly imports COVID-19 into Texas from across the border—willfully exposing Texans and Americans alike,” he said.
“President Biden has a duty and a responsibility to protect and uphold our nation’s sovereignty, yet he has long-since abdicated his authority to do so,” he said.
“Abbott claimed that he had to take action with his executive order as the ‘Biden Administration sits on the sidelines,” the governor said.
“I have the authority, and duty, under the constitutions of the United States and of Texas to protect Texans and our nation,” he said.
“I also have the authority under long-established emergency response laws to control the movement of people to better contain the spread of a disaster, such as those known to have COVID-19,” he said.
Before that, he responded directly to Attorney general Garland with a letter of his own in which he said that Garland’s letter “conflicts with my authority, and duty, to protect citizens of Texas and the United States.”
“Your actions, combined with the actions and omissions of the Biden Administration, directly conflict with my authority as Governor,” the governor said.
“The Biden Administration is failing and refusing to enforce immigration laws by allowing migrants to unlawfully enter into the United States,” he said.
In his letter, he said that it is true that the Constitution gives the authority to the federal government to create immigration policies.
“However, the Constitution does not allow the Biden Administration to fabricate its own immigration laws,” he said.
“Worse, the Biden Administration is knowingly admitting hundreds of thousands of unauthorized migrants, many of whom the federal government knows full well have COVID-19,” the governor said.
“To be clear, the Biden Administration is knowingly importing COVID-19 into Texas from across the border and knowingly exposing Texans and Americans to that disease,” he said.
“Alternatively, the Biden Administration could simply enforce the existing federal immigration laws and stop admitting migrants who are not authorized by Congress to be admitted. That would substantially reduce the importation of COVID-19 while also fulfilling the federal government’s role to faithfully execute the laws of the United States
“My office remains committed to working with you and the Department of Justice to ensure that we achieve the twin goals of applying the laws of the United States and of this state, while also preventing the knowing importation of COVID-19 into our communities,” he said.
