Unofficial 2021 Pre-Fall Ball Defense Discussion
I'm starting this thread (and a companion for offense) on what we suspect, hope, expect the starting lineup and depth will be like.

I'm very interested in how the posters see the newcomers fitting as starters or two deep. Also include 2020 newcomers.

P.S. I realize we, on paper, have something like 19 returning starters on offense and defense so we could, if we wish, pretend that we are all ghost writers for Phil Steele and list the returning starters.

Have fun.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Pre-Fall Ball Defense Discussion
I think we will be better than we were last year. I'm a broken record with being disappointed we didnt find an athletic "bendy" JUCO defensive end.

I think we will be better in the secondary with the transfers Jarret Paul from Rutgers and Brandon Benson who transferred in from Bucknell and was an all-league selection and captain. Other two names to look out for would be Tristen Hines who is super athletic and David Carter from River Rouge who I think is going to be special.

Line backers Myrick, Speights and Scheidt will be above average to good.

Young guys I am looking forward to seeing some time....Melvin Swindle who physically looks like he could play as a true Fr. and Carter Evans who is the brother of the running Back Samson Evans. Could he be the DE we are looking for?

Defensive Stats to take into consideration....

Points per game Allowed by EMU Defense....
-2020: 36.0 ppg (only played MAC opponents) record: 2-4
-2019: 30.3 ppg record: 6-6
-2018: 22.0 ppg record: 7-5
-2017: 23.3 ppg record: 5-7

I think our defense will be improved this year for sure but if we plan on winning what most people think should be 7-8 games, then we CANNOT give up 30 or more points per game. I think our Offense will be explosive but that is putting a TON of pressure on the Offense to have to score 35 or more points per game which would be tough.

We just picked up a JUCO DT. 6' 280 lbs. NT / DT.

Looks like EMU is looking for the winning lottery ticket at DT. A good JUCO DT always has a chance to make a significant contribution. Has size and some experience.

He might be two years out of h.s. Trying to verify. Listed as a RF for 2021?

Reminds me a bit of former player CJ Hunt. Always need solid guys to join the DL rotation
