RE: 2021 USA Olympic Trials - Track and Field
As per my preview of the women's long jump, Brittney Reese was the top qualifier, and Claire Bryant of Memorial High School (and the University of Florida) was the 12th and final qualifier.

RE: 2021 USA Olympic Trials - Track and Field
Don't forget - tomorrow, Friday, June 25, it's the first round of the women's javelin (Ari Ince). 3:00 p.m. CDT.

Women's Javelin (First Round)

3 throws - top 12 advance to Saturday's finals

(Top Competitors) - World Ranking - Best of 2021

3. Maggie Malone 66.82 (219' 2") *
20. Ari Ince 61.64 (202' 2")
29. Kara Winger 60.97 (200' 0") *
33. Kylee Carter 60.69 (199' 1")
48. Avione Larie Allgood 58.78 (192' 10")
68. Ashton Riner 57.31 (188' 0")

* Has Olympic Standard 64.00 (209' 11")

NOTE: Ari does not have the Olympic mark, but right now, she is 20th on the world list (including the 15 who have the mark). The field is 32, so if she finishes among the top 3, she is virtually guaranteed to go to Tokyo.

Also, please note the changed time for Saturday's Women's 10,000 Meters (Grace Forbes). Because of the record afternoon heat that is forecast, the race now will be run at 10:00 a.m. local time, 12 noon CDT.

Second flight to begin at 4:00 p.m. CDT.

Right now, the men's long jump qualifying is taking place, and both Will Claye (winner of triple jump) and Marquise Goodwin (NFL receiver) are in trouble and outside of the top 12 with just one jump remaining.

RE: 2021 USA Olympic Trials - Track and Field
On the women's javelin throw, the efforts in the first flight were pedestrian, at best. Ari should advance to finals with minimal effort.

Remember, the throws from the qualifying round do NOT carry over to finals. There, everyone will have 3 throws, with the top 8 after those 3 throws to advance to finals for 3 additional throws.

Ari with a first throw of 53.14 m (174' 4"), moving her into 4th. That should be sufficient to go to finals. She probably will take her other throws for practice.

RE: 2021 USA Olympic Trials - Track and Field
Meanwhile Across The Pond, Tara Simpson-Sullivan comes from 2nd on her final throw to win the British Olympic Trials Hammer (67.38 meters, her PR and Rice school record is 68.91 meters). I doubt that she has a chance to qualify for the Olympics (no auto standard which is 72.50, and she's pretty far back on the world list), but still that's a very impressive performance for the 20 year old. They mentioned on the broadcast that she had to quarantine after returning from Rice and the United States, so she probably didn't get to train much just prior to the competition.

I bet you she has a real chance to make the 2024 Olympics representing her home country. And perhaps even next year's World Championships.

What’s the chances of Ari making the Olympic team? Top 3 go?

If she finishes in the top three here, she is basically assured of a Tokyo berth due to her place on the world rankings (https://www.worldathletics.org/stats-zon...d=10229533)

Very smart race by Grace, considering the conditions - she never broke down, and in fact, her fastest lap was the last one (1:13.93). During the race, she moved up from 39th to finish at 31st. 41 runners started. BTW, Grace was the youngest in the field.
