"YPSILANTI, MI - Jack Roush, a NASCAR team owner and Hall of Famer, has gifted $1 million to his alma mater Eastern Michigan University.

Roush, who graduated from EMU in 1970 with a master’s degree in mathematics, is sending the money to the university’s GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology.

His donation is being split into three chunks: $400,000 each for mathematics and automotive programs, as well as another $200,000 to enhance the college’s auto lab equipment, according to a news release."

Great and this is how it is supposed to work. Someone gets the ball rolling and then others, like Jack Roush, join in and move the ball forward.

And one things philanthropists know, is where their money can make a big difference. For a few decades STEM has been where it is at with information technology (many decades), life sciences (e.g., mRNA which is now saving hundreds of thousands lives), automotive technology, etc.

I'm not sure what is leading to this surge in philanthropic giving across colleges, public and private, but it is good to see.

I had no idea that Roush is an EMU alum.

Holy moly! Largest donation to a public university ever! Hard to compete with that. Article says anonymous donor- is there any speculation of who it was?
