Good start but they should now do the same to the Section 8 housing along Annie Glidden just north of the University.

This includes Lincoln Tower which is the monstrous eyesore at the southwest corner of Annie Glidden & 38. For many, the gateway as they make their first visit to campus.

About the worst “curb appeal” you’d want there.

Someone please tell me the City will plan to demo this ASAP. I’ll bring the popcorn.

Hahaha wow. I haven’t been back to dekalb in a number of years but crazy to see. I know some of those properties very well, Working with sauser when he owned them. He saw the writing on the wall and jumped ship once the new dorms were being built. To my knowledge hunter properties was an investment/real estate firm from Chicago that bought them up. No real ties to the community like Sauser and no true sense of where the rental space was headed.

Wasn't Mr. Sauser the Star properties? My son graduated a few years ago and that name sounds familiar. He stayed at a place on Lucinda by the student center spoke highly of the management there. I may be mixing apples and oranges.

Correct, they (he) owned a number of properties down Lucinda basically from the VCB down to garden. Most of hillcrest from Annie glidden to normal, and most on papas, spiros and all of Aspen ct. I believe he sold them all to Hunter Properties, now “Hunter star properties”. From the looks of it they bought a number of others as well.

The buildings were well maintained inside and out. Once he sold it sounds like it was downhill from there. When I was there 99% of the tenants were students. With the new dorms pulling from that renter base and now I assume many attending classes online I imagine much of the renter base has changed.

Thanks for the reply and answer, DPD. I was a University Plaza guy back in the 80s and liked it there so never went the apartment route. That, too is now apartments I found out when my son was there. he just chose the more traditional route.

Appreciate your answer.

No problem. I worked at star for a number of years while attending NIU. It was an awesome Job. Shame to see what it’s become which, to my understanding can be said about most of dekalb as well.

Good first step. 2-3000 more students and we're in business...
