If this portal showed anything this season...most guys don’t get picked up. Transferring is a terrible idea for most.
Exactly, it’s become saturated. So unless you’re elite, it doesn’t make much sense to transfer. You’ll get lost in the masses.
It's basically just rearranging furniture.
One would hope, at some point, someone will realized there needs to be some kind of counseling service or something like the NBA has for the draft where players can get a better evaluation on their situation and their prospects elsewhere, but I don't see that happening. It's awfully messy and will be expensive.
It's also quite un-trendy to tell a young person they shouldn't be making choices for themselves. I get personal freedom but this is an area where most involved in a decision like this either don't have the players best interest at heart or they have their head so far up in the clouds they aren't able to see anything clearly.
However, this could also benefit teams like NIU (mid-majors) as it opens the door for players who went big (for a variety of reasons) and should have had their sights set a little lower. It allows them to correct that mistake. You see this a lot in basketball, where a kid will go to a power conference team and then transfer to a JUCO the next season. I suppose this will actually hurt JUCOs because they aren't as necessary anymore, although they are still a good place for a kid to go and get a year where they start and put up some numbers and can get noticed.
I mean, there is a big difference between going somewhere like Sam Houston State and Tennessee Tech and by getting noticed at JUCO might be the difference between the two.
Anyway, I kind of found myself off topic (it happens a lot...). But yeah, I'm not sure if it'll help or hurt mid-majors yet (probably a little of both but also probably a little more of one of those than the other).
I guess you just need to find a coach who can work the new system to their advantage.
