Coaching Carousel about to heat up (NBR... I hope!!!)
Roy Williams just announced he was retiring, creating an opening at one of the premiere jobs in the country. Unless UNC pulls someone from the NBA ranks, you got to figure there will be a domino effect from their hire.

I don't think it's going to be as big of one as UNC's last hire. I'm betting on Wes Miller being the guy.

Texas Tech opened today as well. It’s a pretty attractive position at the moment. Oklahoma also still has an opening. I can’t imagine Kennedy bouncing on us that quickly, but there are definitely some dominoes that will fall.

I'd think McCasland & Stansbury are most likely to (try to) leave. MacCaskand is at or near the top for Texas Tech and Oklahoma. Stansbury probably will take anything from any P5 team that will have him.

The hire of Roy Williams by UNC gave Kansas a shock. They were not used to Kansas being considered a "stepping stone" program rather than a "destination" program. I would think it likely that UNC will once again try to hire such a proven coach again. Who would be on such a "TOP 10" list in today's game?

Maybe my glasses are too green, but I don't see him bouncing on us at all. He's made big bucks at the P5 level and in broadcasting already. He likes being "home" in Birmingham and is very comfortable in his life here.

IMO, he's more interested in leaving a lasting legacy of rebuilding Gene's program and elevating it to where it once was headed.

UNC should hire Brad Stevens IMO. He’s on his way out at the Celtics and is much more successful in the college ranks

Brad Stevens isn't leaving the NBA unless he is fired. And even if he is fired he would probably be snatched up by another NBA team. Based off some of Steven's responses when he was asked about the Indiana job he didn't seem to be interested in coming back to coach in college. I bet he would do analyst stuff before taking a college job.

Yeah I am not as well versed on the NBA as you can tell. I was just thinking that in terms of practicality, it makes a lot of sense for Brad Stevens to gun for that gig.

I hope you are right. I’d love to have him here for however long he wants to stay.

UNC would be foolish if they didn’t force Mark Few to turn down the job. I could also see them making a run at Jay Wright at Villanova. Imho they will try to pick someone off the top of the coaching tree

I think UNC goes after a coach with UNC ties. Hubert Davis and Wes Miller are the names being mentioned at the moment.

UNC can make the call but I don't see either leaving their respective jobs. Those coaches have everything now that they could have at UNC.

I saw him on a couple of lists, but I think his lack of success at Stanford is really going to hold him back.

Agree. If he had made the tournament a couple times at Stanford I think he'd be the slam dunk #1 choice.

All true, but UNC isn't Indiana, particularly today's IU. It's a top five, probably top three job. That's one he has to think seriously about if he has any thought of ever coaching a college team again.

I doubt they can get him though.
