I'm less likely than you. White, retired military officer, attorney, and CPA. Nobody wants me on their jury.

Isn't 3rd degree a lesser charge than 2nd degree?

Yeah.

I don't really get how they are allowing this.

IMHO, the Minnesota courts absolutely bent to judicial activism when holding this charge applicable to the cop shooting the lady in pajamas a few years ago.

Basically, the courts saw there was no way he did it intentionally (2nd degree) but thought "what he did was bad enough to go to jail" so they made the 3rd degree fit. (my opinion)

It seems like the 3rd degree statute was meant for killings when the deceased wasn't the intended person.

It also underscores how sh!tty legislation can be written which requires courts to guess as to the meaning (or invent) of crappily written statutes.

Going to avoid the Twin Cities like the plague when the verdict gets announced. The riots won't impact us in greater Minnesota - where people will actually defend their property.

Great. So now we have our very own No Go Zones.

How about those innocent homeowners? You see what appears to be reasonably well kept up, perhaps middle-class homes. Are they kicked out forever? My Dad grew up on a street like that, only in St Paul, would they have lost everything over something they had nothing to do with?

Where are the cops in this?

The inconvenient truth here is that if Floyd had not ingested a deadly amount of fentanyl he likely would have never died, no matter how long they had him on the ground with a knee in him.

And the only reason he was on the ground with a knee on him in the first place is he refused to get in the car after they peacefully tired to get him in for several minutes. They tried and tried and tried to get him in the car and he cause the whole thing by resisting.

The initial edited clip really angered me, but like most people when I saw the full clip and had more detail of his OD, it changed my view.

I think some people have still never seen the full clip.

The initial clip we saw shows just how powerful of an effect targeted video editing can color peoples responses.

RE: Derek Chauvin Trial
It angered me how long they kept a knee on him after he stopped moving, but again when you watch the full clip you understand more why they did.

It was a difficult situation for the cops. They guy was clearly on something and looked like he just passed out after resisting violently for several minutes.

He was claiming he couldn't breath while he was just standing there LONG before they ever got him on the ground, and if you can't breath then why are you violently resisting? It looked like he was just trying to whine his way out of an arrest.
