RE: A 40 team NFL
IMO VB/Norfolk are similiar to Jacksonville in that they are surrounded by bigger markets.

I like Nerdlinger's list of cities, but no Toronto, or any Canada city. The problem is to who to replace them w/. Iowa? Milwaukee? Another Chicago team? Birmingham? You have a hard time getting up to 40 & a Canada team would work easy, representing all of Canada or you plop one in Toronto & Vancouver

OK, here's the list with the largest Canadian metro areas interfiled. Bold indicates there is currently one NFL team at a site; bold italics indicate two. I placed expansion teams at the 8 sites with an asterisk. Louisville and OKC are even smaller than Virginia Beach/Norfolk, and you're not complaining about them.

RE: A 40 team NFL
I'm not complaining about Toronto b/c of the market size. Market size is all the more reason to add them.

Salt Lake City works.

If no Toronto, then SLC might do. I was responding to the kid who started this thread though.

Oh okay, cool. :)

I just think it's a fun exercise exploring potentially-untapped US markets before immediately resorting to the obvious answer in 'Canada.'

SLC is a little harder to work into the existing alignment though. So here's a full geographic realignment:

AFC
East: Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Norfolk Knights, Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Warriors
North: Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, New York Giants, New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles
South: Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans
West: Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, Kentucky Colonels

NFC
East: Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, Oklahoma Oilers, San Antonio Scorpions
North: Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Stallions
South: Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Destroyers
West: Denver Broncos, Portland Beavers, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, Utah Raptors

And the Cowboys get to stay in the NFC East! 03-wink

I like! But Portland Beavers.......That's already Oregon St in the same area. Gotta think of a different name.

The Portland Beavers were a Triple-A baseball team up until 2010. How about the Portland Platypi?

Without moving teams out of their current conferences:

AFC
East: Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Norfolk Knights
North: Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers
South: Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kentucky Colonels, Miami Dolphins, Tennessee Titans
West: Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, San Diego Destroyers, Utah Raptors

NFC
East: Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Scorpions, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Football Team
North: Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, St. Louis Stallions
South: Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints, Oklahoma Oilers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
West: Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, Portland Thunder, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks

This also makes for one expansion team in each division except for the AFC North (0) and West (2)

If you're going geographic within each conference, why keep Dallas in the East? (And add San Antonio to the East?)

Also, I can't in good conscience condone non-plural team names, so I will amend Portland Thunder to Portland Thunderbirds.

Here you go:

AFC
East: Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers
North: Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Kentucky Colonels
South: Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Antonio Scorpions, Tennessee Titans
West: Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, San Diego Destroyers, Utah Raptors

Something obvious occurred to me: instead of 4 expansion teams, just buy the whole CFL and move 4 teams. (Sorry that this was probably glaringly obvious to everyone else)

Moving the Ravens and/or Steelers from the AFC North is horrendous. I could live with the Colts or an expansion team being added to create a 5th member of the division.
