Acorn has to lose - they need to be below us in the standings, and as long as we beat Ohio, Buffalo can't catch us.
Of course, 3rd seed vs 2nd seed isn't much of an issue in a neutral arena with few fans, But with the way teams are lined up, the 7th seed is Miami and the 6th seed is BUGS, and I'd rather play Miami in the 2nd round.

RE: men's basketball vs ohio
question: because most teams are banged-up near end of regular season.. perhaps this is a good thing? (the cancellation) or no?
at least we'll be rested for big game at UB on friday.
with some down time til friday.. was thinking. this is gonna be a CRAZY fun ncaa tournament :)
will be rooting for KSU and/or MAC representative of course. since i did grad school at UCONN, will be rooting for the huskies as well.
will also be watching KSU & UCONN women post season.
who is your 2nd favorite team? (if you have one)

So, does this mean only Hamilton will use his extra season?

RE: men's basketball vs ohio
UB hangs-on & beats the zips 80-78.
current standings
1. toledo
2. ksu 12-5
3. UB 11-5
4. akron 12-6
akron will beat miami (you would think) to end season at 13-6.
sooo we'll either finish in 2nd place or 4th. either way, we'll have UB on the other side of our bracket :) if we win friday, both UB & UT will be on the other side of our bracket

You sure it is OU that has the COVID issues?

I sure hope it was Ohio. Having a COVID outbreak now might end our season.

OU just had a few players come out of protocol. and out of an abundance of caution for both teams they decided to cancel.

I texted with Rob and it was indeed OU. The statement KSU put out didn't indicate what school had the issues, while the MAC statement did.

I think they still could decide to come back. The women had a player with a redshirt year left go through senior day a couple of years ago. She decided over the summer to come back to the team and started as a grad student.
I don't expect Pippen to come back, but I suspect we have a good chance with Nuga and Beck.

RE: men's basketball vs ohio
I have no idea who is or isn't coming back, but here's my thoughts on it. When they transferred to Kent the plan was that Hamilton and Beck would be Srs next year. Then they were granted immediate eligibility. So in my opinion they're a little more likely to come back. I think the big factor is what does everyone want to do after college? I'd say all 4 of them have shown enough in college to have a professional career overseas. And if they're being honest with themselves, getting into the NBA is no more likely if they come back than it would be going overseas. So I think they'll all have to ask themselves what would they gain from coming back. Could they take another step and position themselves for a better spot overseas? Again, I think Beck and Hamilton are the two that would be most likely to be able to do that. I don't know what more international teams could want to see from Pippen or Nuga to convince them they're capable of playing pro ball.
Hamilton is the one that I think stands to gain the most from coming back, especially if Pippen leaves. He could be in line for some big numbers, especially with 3 proven point guards (assuming Gio, Jacobs, and Carry all come back)

Dang. If we managed to pull out one of those 2 point losses to UT we'd be the number 1 seed right now.
