And this tweet alluding to a fierce competition (presumably for playing/starting time) by True Freshman Ty Myles at the CB position.

It really feels like Hammock welcomes true competition to his camps. I love it. Let the best man earn his time on the field. Corner is 100% a spot where everyone needs to work to play - no one has the position locked down.

I love how he challenges the players. He certainly has the buy-in from his guys

This is true. Although it's affected us adversely for kids transferring away. We are identifying raw talent at a much earlier age in these kids careers. Those who start early and stay are going to develop into some monsters down the road.
He did say everyone, no matter what their accolades were from the Carey regime of MAC champs, was on the edge. And he's certainly proved that, by putting in kids into starting roles over Carey's guys who were in the system longer.
Going to be interesting to see it all pay off the way Hammock envisions it. Carey was good at getting undersized dudes to over produce. However, everyone Hammock is bringing in has unteachable size and speed. It's almost like our whole recruiting class is 3 star dudes. Last year's O line class for example looked like Big Ten sized dudes.

RE: Spring Football- Jonesing
You can’t teach what Hammock is recruiting. This season is going to be a real challenge to recruit guys, no film of their junior years, camps were shut for a lot of last season, just a real mess for everyone involved.
Where Hammock benefits playing so many young guys is that he doesn’t seem to need an infusion of talent at any one spot so he can have an off year recruiting - which this season will likely be.
Here’s a fun question, does anyone feel like they can predict the starting 22 for next season?
On offense we probably have an idea of everyone, but defense could be anyone. We have 4 linebackers. A million DE candidates, 3 or 4 guys at DT, and the secondary outside Lafayette can be 100% different. Anyone want to take a stab at it?

Could be. That guess is as good as any.
Personally Waylee is my starter. Thomas/Davis/O’Malley/Oppong/Mattox are going to be the DE starters.

Waylee needs to be unseated like he did last season. No one is given a position. The Oline will be interesting. They all got an extra year. Being in a college weight and conditioning program makes a difference.

The Running backs position might be the best it’s been since the AJ Harris/Garrett Wolfe days. Lots of competition.

You just gonna do Meco Brown and Justin Anderson like that?
I'm kidding. My favorite underrated duo was Bouganon and Huff. I to this day can't believe Huff isn't a star in the NFL. He ran different.

It sounds like Buss will be in the running for playing time. I would like to see a lot of competition at O line because they weren't too good last year.

Don't get me started about Garrett Wolfe. He was playing behind AJ but was soooooo much better than AJ. I think it took an injury then would ran for 200 yards game

Isn't that the same thing that happened to Ham and Turner?

Yep. Drove me crazy. Harris and Hammock were very good MAC running backs. Turner and wolfe were All American quality

Huff's inability, or lack of desire?, to block was a large part of him not getting more PT at NIU.

Hammock tweeted that the Huskie “combine” is next month. Who is the fastest in the pack?
Waylee right? Would be cool if they posted the results or at least mentioned who won each position group.

Out of pads it’s Waylee. He was track star. 10.79 100 meter in HS. That means he knows how to actually sprint, not just run. I think Rudolph is maybe faster on the field but if I’d bet anything he loses to him in a tradition sprint.

This team is fun to follow now, imagine once we grow more and gel on the field, they’ll be fun to watch and they’ll win.

I've been following the coaches and football account on twitter for a while and I'm very impressed with the development and offseason training. I'm into powerlifting myself so seeing these guys get after it in the weight room is super cool. Slam bars and kill PRs! Light weight. love to see the growth of the team and Hammock's vision unfolding. He's building something here - I truly believe it. There will be peaks and valleys, but the future is bright.
go Huskies! Can't wait to watch some football this fall in Huskie Stadium. Beyond over the damn China Virus [/b]

I’m enthusiastic about how Hammock’s getting after it, but really, do we think Hammock is unique to emphasize lifting, strength and size while also trying to recruit it? Isn’t todays game mostly based on bigger, stronger, faster and almost every coach is after that?
