RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
A few minutes ago, Coach got mad at Okauru for a lack of defensive effort. “What are you, tired? You can rest tomorrow!”. Haha.

The defensive intensity overall has gotten much better since...

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
Pridgen hurt his wrist/forearm after colliding with Sims. He came out and hasn’t returned yet.

Pridgen hasn’t had to head to the locker room so hopefully he can come back in.

Yep. And can’t get a rebound at the biggest point in the game. After giving up and easy bucket inside to Painter to take the lead. Lack of size kills. When I first started coaching the guy I learned from, an old timer “you can’t coach height”. Nope, no you can’t

Now 1-3 in 4 close games. Terrible stretch today and in game 2 at Towson cost us both games.

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
Hawks shoot 34% and 15% from three. You will lose 9 of 10 games when you shoot like that. Losing Pridgen at the end was the nail in the coffin.

But yet had a 10 point lead. Can’t blame it all on cold shooting. It doesn’t help, but

Yeah you can. We were up 11 with 11:42 left in the game.

We were 6-11 from the field and 1-1 from three to start the second half and took an 11 point lead. That's over 50%.
After that, we were 2-13 from then until the end of the game. Game over. Period. That's less than 20 % for you non math majors. And those two were not three pointers.

You can blame it on what you want. The game was lost on an easy bucket we couldn’t defend to painter, and a rebound we couldn’t get. Fact. They still had a chance to win that game in the last two minutes #recruitmoresize

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
You had six players commit exactly 3 fouls, and it was the first time you had at least six players commit exactly 3 fouls since an 85-67 win at Delaware on January 9, 2016. It was the first time from 2010-2011 to now that you had at least six players commit exactly 3 fouls and nobody commit 1 or 2 fouls.

Then Dodd needs to go. He's eating up a scholarship at the 5 and can't defend, rebound or score there. And he's not a 4. That's what you fail to realize. Unless Siddle pulled a Keatts, he had two fives on scholarship in Bowen and Dodd. He had one to spend on a big and he took a chance on someone that might have been able to contribute immediately. We can't use four schollies on big men.

Neither Dodd nor Bowen are a 5. How is it that this staff can’t seem to get the most of Dodd? He played very well in stretches last year. I’ve said it once I’ll say it again, you take your “shots” at positions of depth. It’s not a good plan to take shots at positions of need because if it doesn’t work out you are in trouble.... and here we are

They are in a Siddle system. Best for all if they move on and we can use those scholarhsips on players that fit the system better.

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
Hawks have McGriff coming and may look to get the big guy from Burlington too that is Thomas teammate. That would be enough with Dodd and Boggs coming back. One more big would help for next year for sure. Boggs can play 4 also. I’m not giving up on Dodd, I have seen him do some good things out there so he can help.

RE: UNCW vs. Delaware
I think the Keatts/Siddle system really can only work well when you have a deep enough bench to run it...particularly when you have back to back/back to back games. You have to play the whole floor, and play it all game every game. Playing it any other way with the personnel we have is no bueno.

My hunch is that either Siddle plays the game as if the bench were deeper than it is (and hope that works), or we will see every bigger team take the ball into the paint with similar results .
