RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
Pera is wheeling and dealing. Two new offers for 2022 kids: wing Blair Thompson and forward Jeremy Gregory.

Thompson is from New York with offers from Harvard, Yale, Penn, and Xavier. Interest from Minnesota and Vanderbilt. He's a composite top-150 recruit. Good shooter, good athleticism. Not a lot of handling in his highlight videos, but doesn't look uncomfortable with the ball.

Gregory is 6-7 and plays in North Carolina. Offers from a bunch of east coast mid-majors schools. Interest from some bigger programs (Wake, NC St, Butler, etc.). He's more of a paint big than other offers, in the process of working on his shot. Looks like he has really good touch and body control, though he's a big body and physically outmatches basically everybody who guards him in the highlight videos.

Also to 2022 SG Connor Essegian, out of Indiana. Offers from a slew of mid-majors (Belmont, Lipscomb, Loyola CHI, Murray St., etc.). Really good shooter.

Looks like Thompson plays at Northfield Mt Hermon in Mass, a school we've offered guys at before (in fairness, most colleges recruit from there).

RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
So...Rice is offering by far the most 2022 kids among CUSA programs. Like, it's not even close. Numbers below. I could've completely missed it the last couple of years, but it's kind of interesting considering Rice's football reputation of basically offering nobody. Now, we haven't quite gotten to Jared Grasso and Bryant levels of recruiting (4 spots, 139 offers). But still kind of odd to see from a school like Rice (a few Ivies have fewer than 5 outstanding 2022 offers).

Charlotte - 4 spots, 13 offers
FAU - 3 spots, 7 offers
FIU - 3 spots, 20 offers
La Tech - 3 spots, 11 offers
Marshall - 3 spots, 1 offer
MTSU - 5 spots, 9 offers
North Texas - 7 spots, 11 offers
Old Dominion - 4 spots, 31 offers
Rice - 2 spots, 38 offers
Southern Miss - 5 spots, 6 offers
UAB - 8 spots, 14 offers
UTEP - 6 spots, 7 offers
UTSA - 5 spots, 6 offers
WKU - 6 spots, 6 offers

MBB Recruiting 2022
It has been an encouraging 12 months for Rice Men’s Basketball, but absolutely none of the 14 schools on your list know how many openings for 2022 they will have. The openings you listed are simply the minimum likely possible, if everyone sticks around.

RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
Some AAU circuit updates:

> Not much info on what games our coaches have been watching because there are a bunch of schools recruiting experts list before us. Seems like the games we've been confirmed at is Gamepoint-Ohio Basketball, West Coast Elite-Illinois Wolves, West Coast Elite-NE6, Houston Hoops-Team Durant. Obviously can't know who exactly we're watching, but among the guys on those teams who we've shown interest in are Amaree Abram, BB Knight, Austin Benigni, Devon Arlington, and Jalen Quinn
> An update for guys who we have offered: Amaree Abram is showing out (averaging 18.5 points) for a good Houston Hoops team, BB Knight has really struggled shooting (just 7% in three games), Austin Benigni has seen a lot of time on the floor as the "intangibles" guy (24.7 minutes but just 5.0 points), Luke Hunger has been very good (16.2 points, 7.4 rebounds), Arop Arop has struggled to break through (just 7 minutes in 3 games), Connor Essegian has averaged 20.5 points through two games, Isaiah Barganier has been decent (6.4 points), Danny Wolf is showing why he'd be a great fit in Pera's system (5.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists), Duke Brennan has been decent (12.5 ppg, 8.2 rebounds), KyeRon Lindsay has been really, really effective (16.4 ppg, 9.2 rpg) for a good team, Xavier Amos scored 15 points in his only game, and Jalen Quinn scored 12 points in his only game.
> Lindsay is the guy who's impressed me the most. Incredibly fluid for his size and plays with awesome body control. I think he'd be a stud at the mid-major level. But he just picked up an offer from Oklahoma State and is quickly departing our price range. His social media presence seems to be that of somebody wanting to play in a major conference, so I'm not getting my hopes up.

RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
Looks like Chancellor White will take an official visit in the coming weeks. He was on campus for an unofficial visit a few weeks back. 6-5 2022 guard. Has picked up offers from Colorado, La Tech, and ODU since he decommitted from East Carolina. I was wrong in my last assessment - he's definitely not working on his perimeter game. He's a knock down shooter with range. Active and long on defense (which is why ODU has offered him and why Houston originally offered him). Probably still some work to do on his handle and attacking. He's playing with Houston Defenders on the AAU circuit, but they're not one of the teams that actively keeps track of stats.

What does "knock down shooter" mean?

Just means he's a very good shooter. Get it in his hands and he'll knock it down.

2022 Dom Campbell commits to Notre Dame. He blew up shortly after we offered, so our pursuit of him always seemed half-hearted.

RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
If we miss on some of our other targets, I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if we offer Campbell's Middlesex Magic teammate, Mike Loughnane. Not much in terms offers right now (Bryant) but has had a really good summer season and could be late riser. Same HS as Travis Evee and Carl Pierre (and me!). He's a coaches kid and has very good basketball IQ to pair with better athleticism than his older brothers (who are my age-one went to Duke and the other played D2 hoops).

RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
Lindsay has picked up offers from Texas A&M, Tennessee, TCU, and Xavier in the last 2 days. Unless he struck up a great relationship with the coaching staff, he's not happening. Behind him, I think my "true big" preference is: Luke Hunger, Danny Wolf, and then Jeremy Gregory.

RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
2022 PG Devon Arlington released his final 7 schools and Rice makes the cut, along with Yale, UC Davis, New Mexico, Dartmouth, Columbia, and Boston U. Bigger body PG, but unlike a lot of the guards that Pera recruits, actually probably a PG at the next level! Averaged 20.3 points and 6.1 assists last year in HS on 46/30/64 shooting splits. So obviously not fully there with his shooting. Had five games last season with 10 or more assists. Good passer and generally a good floor general.

RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
I'm not sure if Braeden Moore ever made it to campus after his visits to Rutgers, Wisconsin, and Nebraska. Sounds like he's picking a school within the hour and the consensus is that it's going to be one of those three.

All indications are that it's going to be Rutgers.

And Moore does, in fact, go to Rutgers. Writing was on the wall with this one after he visited Rutgers, Wisconsin, and Nebraska before Rice. Not a recipe for success for a smaller school. Will be a good test for him because I'm not sold on him as a Big 10 wing.

RE: MBB Recruiting 2022
Lindsay talked with 247 about his recruiting and mentioned by name Marquette, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. No mention of Rice.

An interesting thing in the article, though, is that he mentions being interested in pursuing a degree in architecture. If Rice is still recruiting him, I hope Pera is all over that like white on rice. We can't match up with any of the five programs when it comes to basketball or culture, but if Lindsay wants to study architecture, THAT'S something Rice can sell.

Reading another article, he's taken an unofficial visit to UTSA and UTA. Has officials scheduled for Oklahoma State and UNLV. The more I read the more I'm convinced we're no longer a player.

Connor Essegian doesn't seem like an option anymore. He's a northern kid and he just recently received offers from Wisconsin (on an unofficial visit) and Minnesota. He's already said he plans on visiting both.

I still think the most realistic guard commit of all of our recent 2022 offers is CJ Luster.

Both Shtolzberg and Essegian are narrowing down their lists this weekend. Don't think we have a shot on either, if we're even still recruiting them.

Essegian's list doesn't include Rice. Same with Shtolzberg.

More miscellaneous recruiting notes:

> Duke Brennan didn't mention Rice as one of the schools most heavily contacting him, so I think it's safe to say we're out on him
> Jesaiah McWright mentioned La Tech, ETSU, and Colorado when asked which schools were recruiting him heavily
> Miles Bird didn't mention Rice as one of the schools after him (or that he's interested in) in a recent article
