Lots of chances to extend this lead but we can't get stops.

62-58 UAB. Very hard fought win. Southern Miss didn't quit. Great poise at the line by Benjamin late.
Cold shooting home stand for Jalen though, 6-25 from 3pt last 2 games.

Better to go in to play what was a top 4 team last season coming off a win than a loss.

Charlotte already has a win over WKU. Will be a very tough series.
6 big points and rebounds from Kirkland today. A surprise and very welcome contribution from big #10. Eleven points and 7 rebounds from our 2nd string front court of Simeon and Rongie Gordon.

I like Nicholson’s style more and more with each passing game. Dudes a stud

They went to zone. Took us longer to adjust than I expected. I haven't watched all of our games this year, but I don't see a "drive & dish" guy like AJ getting us open looks.
We’re relying on our shooting a little more than we should be. Overall we’re still putting forth an awesome product, there were just times when we looked sort of lost tonight. I think that had more to do with this being the first full game without Quan, he seemed to be one of the big leaders in the locker room and obviously on the court, so I think we’re still trying to find an identity after that unfortunate injury.
We only played seven tonight. Depth among our bigs may become an issue. Will Kirkland see the floor or is he the second coming of Beas Hamga?
I withdraw the question. Kirkland played well.

Developing depth.
Now we need confident shooters.
With Ertel, TSG and JB out there at same time we should be able to shoot it.

Ew, D2 loss. Means they’ll come out motivated to erase that taste.

RE: UAB USM basketball What to expect?
UAB 3 pt shooting:
Nicholson 45.5% - only 11 attempts
Benjamin 37% - 6-25 in two USM games
TSG 30% - 35% last season
Ertel 24% - Shot 43% from 3 as a sophomore. 33% last season
Jackson 17% - career 30% shooter from 3 at Ga So.
Not a long list of shooters. Definitely not great so far but based on the guys prior seasons there is a lot of potential for improvement. Ertel is a disappointment from behind the arc for me. He's got a really nice mid-range game but I expected much better 3 pt shooting. Shot great from there as a sophomore so he's definitely got it in him.

Ertel has a weird shot. It’s like he throws his back into it or something. He clearly has good touch, and it’s why his mid-range game is so good. Further away from the basket, he has to generate more power, and that’s where the unorthodox shooting mechanics hurt him. His sophomore season, he wasn’t the primary initiator, so I’m willing to bet a lot of his threes were catch and shoot opportunities versus the off the dribble and off screen shots now.
I was really hoping that Quan would run the point so Ertel and Jalen could run off screens and/or camp in the corners.
On the plus side, TSG is starting to shoot better, and that’s needed to replace the points Quan took off the board from his defense.
I still wish AK had played more guys early in the season to see if anyone else could contribute. #UnleashTheRoteGod

Strange how different Ertel's shooting motion is from behind the arc and off the dribble or curl. Got a nice release and height on his shot from mid-range but somehow it flattens out from long range. I was hoping last season was just an off one for him and he would get back towards 40%.
I thought we might see Jeffries more after Quan's injury but not a minute against USM. Toney with 2 minutes yesterday.
When teams inevitably zone us, I'd like to see some Rotegaard too:
