RE: 2020 Gasparilla Bowl Canceled
There is no sense in leaving CSUK unless it is for the AAC or P5. The Sun Belt isn't stable enough or successful enough to pay exit and entrance fees for. All $eggs$ in the basket need to be in into making ourselves profitable for an upward movement.
What's the minimum size for a new conference?

Wow, thanks for that detailed explanation of this debacle.
Why was the conference champ paired with a 2-8 team?
Did UAB choose to be in that garbage game?
Why not keep the team available in case another slot opened up?
Please don't give me the "all this team endured" crap. We've ALL endured a hell of a lot in 2020. Another bowl game would have been a nice gift to all the fans that endured not only a tough year but the 10 years wandering in the wilderness with this program. Disappointing that UAB gave up so quickly.

Maybe, just maybe, these players and coaches said f it, I just want to go home. They had five cancelled games, they had to play a game with the bottom of the roster. They won a conference championship. The game was cancelled, South Carolina obviously should have never accepted. Why would any fan expect these guys to sit around and wait to see if a spot opens up instead of spending time with their families?
I can get on board with we screwed the pooch in the initial section process. I absolutely cannot get on board with you should stay on campus in hopes of filling a void.

Yeah I think UAB probably botched the initial bowl selection pretty badly, and it would be nice to see an explanation for that - we will probably never get one, oh well. But I am fine with the team going home after south carolina cancelling.

I admit waiting on another bowl was probably wishful thinking anyway. The **** up was definitely in our bowl selection. I would love to hear the rationale for going with a match up vs 2-8 South Carolina in Tampa as opposed to a 7-3 Memphis team an hour and half away from Birmingham. I won't be convinced we have more to gain by beating that hapless Gamecocks team.
Looks like "we're happy with our season-bye" is all we're gonna get. I had become an Ingram fan but I think he has handled this poorly. The team and the fans deserved better.

I think arbitrarily placing the blame on the AD is also not the correct thing to do. I have always been neutral on Ingram, and feel like UAB athletics are in a better place with him than they were before him.(whether his fault or not, that’s a fact). I don’t know exactly who the “blame” should be placed on, but in these situations it’s normally not one person or entity that’s entirely at fault.
We are never going to get an answer on what happened, but this is one case where I am fine with the season ending where it did and moving on.

My guess, could be and probably am wrong, is we chose the Bham Bowl which freed up Marshall to pick their bowl. Once the Bham bowl cancelled we were kind of just left with what was still out there. Just wish SC would've cancelled before Tennessee. Also, I don't blame UAB at all for not waiting around through Christmas break in hopes of another team backing out.

South Carolina canceling out was a blessing. It was a no-win situation for UAB playing a 2-8 team. I didn’t like our chances against them anyway. I’m happy the players got to go home for Christmas.

I know. Incredibly poor decision by UAB to choose to play a 2-8 team. How could Ingram or whoever not see the situation they were putting the team in? I also think the Carolina players reluctance to continue a 2-8 season could have been foreseen. A ridiculous choice by the SEC to put that team in a bowl and an almost equally ridiculous choice by UAB to accept playing them.

Mississippi State (4-7) 28 - Tulsa (6-3) 26. Tulsa was ranked 24th.

Good weather for the Birmingham Bowl (if it wasn't cancelled).
