The two schools last met in 2014 and UConn edged them 19-16.

He's actually got two years of eligibility left which is nice.

He might even have a 3rd year available.

LT Justin Tunstall 6-6, 329 is not on UC's roster yet. His parents are Pastor and “Lady in Chief” in a church in Maryland and Tunstall is eloquent. He redshirted 2017 at UConn, played 5 games at LT in 2018 and became good friends with teammate Darrian Beavers. In 2019 he played 9 of 12 games at FCS Stony Brook Seawolves at 305# and made FCS All-American at LT. He opted out of playing in 2020 because of COVID and entered the transfer portal in 2021 signing up with the Bearcats. When he graduates from Stony Brook he will join the Bearcats. Tunstall is the real deal at LT; Tennessee offered Justin when their five star two year LT starter Wonya Morris entered the transfer portal. Tunstall is athletic, gets low, and uses his arms well while pass blocking. He moved well on a Seawolves 50/50 pass/run team. I only saw him play in a blowout loss at BCS Utah State. He is working out because he looks buff and weighs 24 more pounds than he did 1 ½ years ago playing for Stony Brook. Stony Brook had a decent team in 2019 with a win over #5 FCS ranked Villanova, a close loss to #2 James Madison in OT, and a loss to #22 Towson for a 5-7 record. His OL coach was Chris Bache who coached OL at Kent State, Youngstown State, IUPA, Kutztown State, and College of Wooster. Stony Brook didn’t play last year and Tunstall has two years of eligibility left.
Tunstall is not another James Hudson; there will only be one Double Nickel. He is more like LT Dino Boyd 6-4 300 2018 FCS transfer. Boyd has long arms, is a good pass blocker, and a better run blocker. Truck Warren running left behind Boyd and true Freshman Jeremy Cooper always got the TD or first down for the Bearcats that year - except for only one time. I watched at 3rd and 4th and short and the Truck almost always delivered. James Hudson might or might not mean a lot for an NFL team, but losing him in the Georgia game meant everything for UC. Bearcats didn't score in the last 29 minutes. Georgia got lucky playing in their home blacks. Bearcats don't lose in their home blacks. Getting drafted in the NFL is like getting drafted in the 1st round in the NBA. There is a lot of guaranteed money over 4 years if one is lucky to to be drafted in the NFL.

It looks like Collingsworth 310 and Mao 300 are the only true freshmen with the size to play this season.
It's too early but here is my guess:
OLine Depth Chart
GP is games played in 2020
LT James Tunstall 6-6 329 transfer from Stony Brook, UConn
LT Lorenz Metz RS Jr 6-9, 335 Neuoertting, Bavaria, Germany GP8
LT Kobe McAllister So 6-6 293 Ringgold, GA Heritage
LG Dylan O’Quinn RS Jr 6-4, 307 Toledo St Johns Jesuit GP10
LG Marcelo Mendiola 6-3, 311 Chicago Mt Carmel GP1
LG Glyn Mao II Fr 6-3, 300 Cincinnati Walnut Hills
C Jake Renfro So 6-3, 302 Mokena, IL Providence Catholic GP7
C Jakari Robinson RS Sr 6-2, 307 Talladega, AL Munford GP7
RG Colin Woodside RS Jr 6-5, 321 Lancaster, OH Fairfield Union GP10
RG Jeremy Cooper 6-4, 325 Chicago Mt Carmel GP9
RG Cody Lamb Sr 6-4, 295 Miamisburg, OH GP10
RT Vincent McConnell RS Sr 6-5, 300 Massillon, OH Washington GP9
Jonathan Allen 6-5, 345 Dayton Dunbar
John Williams RS Fr 6-5, 300 Bolingbrook, IL GP4
Gavin Gerhart 6-4, 318 Xenia OH
Luke Collinsworth Fr 6-6, 310 Brookville, IN East Central

Renfro is turning into a great Center. The Bearcats other great center Jason Kelce was a walk-on LB his first two years. One year starting at LG and his senior year starting at C.
Cody Lamb is on the roster and played in all ten games.
This is a better than average front line.
None of these players were rated over 86 (247) as HS seniors.

Happy to have Ridder back, and I don't blame him at all for nearly jumping in the draft. He was projected by many as a 3rd round pick, which equals about a million dollar signing bonus. Hopefully he improves his draft stock coming back a final season. The 2nd round is a BIG jump in guaranteed money.

Agreed. UC has had some great QB's over the years. And some excellent seasons. But I don't think we've ever had this combination--a capable QB who has led the 'Cats to successful seasons three years running and will return for a fourth.

I know as fans we easily become enamored with the perfectly thrown deep ball. While Ridder delivers those sometimes, on the whole his performances consistently deliver winning results. Despite impressive recruiting rankings in the QB room, I don't think DR will be as easily replaced in 2022 as some believe. We're enjoying a very special time in Bearcat football history and next season holds much promise with him under center.

Ridder reminds me of Tommie Frazier, winners, runners, and while passing wasn’t their strong suit, they were capable. Ridder has the chance to leave UC as the winningest QB of all time, quite an accomplishment.

Kellen Moore has 50 wins...unless the ayoff expands to 16 in the next few weeks, Ridder won't get there, but I'm pretty sure he is already the winningest UC QB all time unless CFB Reference is missing someone.

Ridder technically has 2 years left due to covid. He’ll probably only take one though.

I'm telling ya, do not underestimate the impact of Coby's return for another year. I know we all salivate over Sauce - and rightly so - but Coby is a great corner to compliment on the other side of A1.

Ridder would have passed Gene Rossi this year. Rossi was 26-6-1 for his career (1950-1952). Counting games he played in Des would now have a 30-5 career mark (29-5 if you only count starts).

Where did Garner and Bush rank in those lists?

I thought he was 30-5? 10 wins, 11 wins, 9 wins.

Love that they even mention the IU-Cincinnati game, straight up saying they can lose to us but still make it lol.

LOL, i was waiting to see if anyone caught that. To be fair, and i may be wrong here, but i think Heather D. has been fairly pro Bearcat.

Maybe this year she was. But I don't remember her being fair to us in the past. Even when she was the lead person doing the Big East back in the day or was she stuck with us in the early days of the P5 split. Can't remember when she covered the conference we were in at the time.

That wasn’t her, that was Andrea Adelson. Adelson had a huge crush on Charlie Strong and Louisville.

Nice interview and I'm glad Ridder is back. With Bryant gone, I don't get the sense that any other guy in the QB room was "ready now" to compete for another conference title and NY6 bid.

The only downside in that video: having to watch 3rd and 2 again from multiple angles. The Peach was the big prize last year and UC played a great game but envisioning a first down there that meant a certain victory is still gut wrenching for fans and surely more so for coaches and players.
