We are at the second level of division 1 in basketball. First level are the true blue bloods. NSU is at the third level. Frankly I can't see a single advantage to playing them. With the exception of them being so close. Honestly, does anyone want an ongoing rivalry with Norfolk State University? Why? Tell me how it helps the program and I'd be willing to listen....

I'd be willing to play them every year if UVA or VT agreed to play us every year. That would offset the SOS killer.

Hate to be THAT guy who is quoting RPIs at the meaningless time of the season, but NSU is currently at #29. (and they had more recent NCAA success than we have).
Heck, they're probably boosting our SOS these days!

Don't fall for that. We are a much harder program for NSU to handle. Even with a loss at Echols arena. That being said.... we need to play a much tougher schedule....

We need to focus on getting good. Then we can worry about the schedule. We’ve been a bubble team once in the last 9 years and the bubble popped not due to the OOC schedule but due to our mediocre in conference performance.

I am in favor of playing Norfolk State every year in basketball.

WTF is up with their coach spouting off? I think he ticked Jones off.

The only way to shut him up is to put up a win.

I love the NSU Football and Basketball games. It's os good for the City and a great atmosphere. So much more fun than MES, etc...

The only reason this is a problem is because we might lose, and you can't lose to a team from one of the worst conferences in D1 college basketball and walk away from that unscathed. Just look at all the talk about losses to W&M on this board. How do you think it would go if we were regularly losing to NSU?

100% agree.

Other tenants in my office building are "Behold the Green and Gold" super fans. We are friendly, but do not otherwise have much in common. Except the occasional ODU/NSU match ups.

ODU is an excellent Norfolk citizen. It doesn't need to reach out to NSU to re-prove those credentials. But it still is a nice thing to do - - and far more preferable to the UMES nonsense.
