RE: The Factory November 18, 2020
I was on Howard's campus last week and took photos of their stadium (< 10K capacity).
They have a track inside their stadium which was red and now blue. The blue looks nice and does not standout at all. (I was on the visitor's side looking across to the home side and press box).
this is what an ugly red track looks like at Howard:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_H._Greene_Stadium
Also, their stands are lower to the field where ours are raised and have a very concrete, 'brutalist' style (I think brutalist architecture was 'popular' say 50 - 75 years ago.).
I'll post a photo I took (having trouble doing it.) The photo is too large (3MB).
I also have Wayne State's green track. Here is a shot from above, very high. The track would not be as obvious from seat level.

Are you guys in favor of having the track redone green ala the last link above?
I think the green apron and green track would look good. Then just need to put a 'bunch of something' on each side of the track to make it look less barren.

RE: The Factory November 18, 2020
Here is a photo of the Howard Stadium (Greene Stadium). It looks like the milled the red cinder and had not yet put down the blue cinder. The gray track almost gets lost as it is so neutral. [Couple of the photos show the old red cinder track.]
https://rashidarchitects.com/portfolio/w...press-box/
BTW, the photo shows how the press box was built 'into' the stands. It looks great and those have to be great seats.
I would like that done with a new press box at Rynearson. It would have the effect of making the whole press box, suites, etc. appear much closer to the field.
I have been up in both the press box and suites on game day and they do have the 'distance' look to them. I doubt anyone would build them today the way they are now. BTW, the area where the radio and TV crew are is shall we say... not ideal.

RE: The Factory November 18, 2020
"As for the range of colours available for athletics running tracks, red is the most popular as it is the most UV stable and therefore won’t react and fade in the sunlight, meaning the surface is kept to a high standard for longer. Other popular colours which are less prone to fading and wearing from the the sun are green and blue, "
This is why most tracks are red. Wayne State went to green. Howard went to blue. WSU's school color is green. Howard's blue.

I really wish we could demolish those visitor stands and do something useful with the space. Even when we've landed 17,000 people for a game, they're sitting on the wrong damn side of the stadium and invisible to the cameras.
Also, WAIT A MINUTE HERE, I thought the track was supposed to be relocated in the upgrade?!

Nope.
The original plans, which I think had a phase I and II had to be revised.
I think we're 'due' for a resurfacing the track.
Then that old press box needs to be replaced. I believe UMass spent 10M on theirs. I've heard BSU spent more than that on theirs which was over 10 years ago.

If a new press box is needed then build it on the east side. Put the cameras over there too.
That said, every football football stadium I can think of has the press box on the west side. Probably because of the sun.

And when the press box was built there weren't much in the way of stands there. The east side seats were constructed in 1991 or 2. I forget which year.

This is a recent (today) photo I took of the Howard's stadium now fully ready for FB and T&F.
As this photo shows, the track is blue (Howard's primary color) and goes really, really nicely.
Obviously blue wouldn't be appropriate for us, but green or gray or black, as has been suggested above.
(having trouble making the jpeg small enough for an attachment).

When I spoke to Scott Wetherbee last week, I mentioned some interest in volunteering to assist in cleanup/ painting at the Factory. Being there is a union issue, he suggested to email him of you are local and interested. He said maybe he can get approval from the Facilities group.

Curious if the expense is charged to the university or specifically to the athletic department.
When I'm on campus in early August, I'll ask when is EMU going to re-do the track inside Rynearson. I prefer green, I think.
As I indicated in a post somewhere (hell, I don't even remember. ) certain issues even in athletic facilities (e.g. stadium lights) are maintenance items and fall under that budget.
I don't know if a resurfacing the track is an item for the universities maintenance budget or if it is part of the athletic department budget.
I thought I had heard that some of those nice FB road game guarantees are set aside for athletic facilities (maybe the scoreboard in the Convo?, maybe new turf in Rynearson, maybe whatever).
