It’s going to be really interesting to see how this plays out with only 13 scholarships in basketball. Lots of high school kids may have just lost the chance at the D1 level if this is utilized widely among the 347 D1 programs. There will be a trickle down effect.
You may end up seeing a lot of good players ending up at lower tier schools like Murray State just because scholarships they thought were available disappeared when someone decided to stay.
Hypothetically, I can't imagine there is a single freshman in the country in basketball that we have a realistic chance at landing that we'd trade a 5th year of Keith Williams for.
Class of 2016
WR Jordan Jones. A transfer who played in 2017 and 2018. Did not play in 2019. Graduated May 2020 from Arkansas in May 2020. A starter right now. Needs a spring and summer to work with UC´s QBs.
TE Noah Davis. He is not on scholarship right now but is in grad school. Went to Cincy St. Xavier. Didn´t play much for Mich State. Super talent when healthy.
DT Curtis Brooks. 6-2 295 A solid NT-DT in rotation that moves.
J Michael Pitts. Need more sacks. 9.5 career, none this year,
LB Joel Dublanko. An NFL size LB with solid production last 3 years
DL Marcus Brown 6’2 297. Four solid years rotating on DL. He needs another year, please.
J Ethan Tucky. A transfer from Boston College. Every year he gets better. 7.5 career sacks.
RT Darius Harper 6’7 308. Played 27 games for MiamiOH basketball. Should have another football season before he moves to NFL. Right now, he may not be ready. The Bearcat RPO offense helps his blocking. Another local from Dayton Springfield HS. What’s weird is with basketball´s COVID 64 teams playing in a bubble tournament, depth – like with this years Bearcat’s football team – is really important. Let Harper play in the AAC and NCAA basketball Tournaments this year. He can move a lot better than when he was BB C for MiamiOH.
Class of 2017
CB Coby Bryant. Solid 4 years. 6 career ints. 6-1 NFL size.
QB Des Ridder. Only a three year starting QB. COVID year 2021, RS year 2022. Five years starting QB! That means doubling his starts from now. NFL wants to see a longer passing game. Five ints this season. 153 QBR can be much better. 66.7 percent passing completion can be much better.
LB Jarell White. Solid four years. 5’10 205. The NFL team that signs Jarell is smart, lucky, and probably really good anyway. Most NFL teams don´t want DBs shorter than 6’0 tall.
One exception – Jacksonville Jaguars have 5 DB´s under 6´0. Not coincidentally, all 5 went to Temple. From Cincy LaSalle HS. I love it when local 4 star recruits play lights out for the Bearcats.
RB Cam Young walk on RB with size 6’1 205. Has career stats of 2 rushes and 43.5 ypc. It’s not fun to be scout team RB, or a walk on. Like Noah Davis, he won’t be getting a scholarship next year, so what’s the problem. Maybe he can start a RB controversy LOL.
P James Smith. Four great seasons as a punter. Before JS, a good punt was inside the 20. Now a good punt is inside the 10 yard line. Australia is in a complete COVID lockdown. Stay in America bloke, and get a masters.
Etc., etc.
